Just had a complete rebuild and the bike is using way too much oil.
Last year I had a major failure with my engine when the rear cam bearing disintegrated jamming the oil pump and pretty much f@%&ing the motor. I had it rebuilt by reliable guy that I've been using for years. It was expensive, but it had to be done. Got a new crank, new pistons, headwork, new style cam support plate, new cams, high flow oil pump etc.
I didn't get to ride it from late last August, til March in Daytona. It was puffing black smoke. It used a couple of quarts in less than 1,000 miles.
I talked to the Indy that did the work, I'm sure there will be no problem with him fixing it. He seems to think the rings didn't seat for some reason.
I'll be taking it to him next week.
For the mechanics in the crowd, what are your thoughts.
Besides rings, why else could it be using oil?

Have you checked to see if there is oil in your air cleaner? If so, then someone put too much oil in it, which causes the bike to start sucking oil. It will not stop once started. I don't have a solution for it, only seen it happen a few times and had a non-Harley bike mechanic point that one out to me. Seems the dealer put too much oil in mine and thats what happened. H-D had no way to fix it, because they didn't know why it kept doing it, so I traded.
