Default 38649-08 and 38649-08a ? same cable?

i did my WO575s today. installed the clutch cable 38649-08a and its supposed to be +4 and its just a little short - an inch maybe. i will re-route cable, but just want to double check - are these really the same cable? i thought that letters at the end of a number just meant a slight enhancement or variation.

thx - tin

oh - and also - do you route the cable behind or in front of the crash guards? that may be where i lose the inch, i have it behind.

The -08 is not yet obsolete. It simply states "pending obsolete" so I don't know if there is a difference or not. I know you can obtain both cables still. It might have something to do with the frame change in 09 so it might be a slightly different length. As for the engine guard, it can be either way. I had mine in the back, but with the oil cooler I had to put it in the front.

went out tonight and tried to re-route the cable everywhere. it is simply too short. huge bummer as now i will have to drop exhaust again to swap another cable. wish i knew the length of this 08-A cable. now, what will be the perfect cable size?

2010 Limited takes a +4 clutch cable with the 575 bars. The stock length is 62.69", you want 66.29". 38923-09 is the part # for the Diamondback cable.

thanks train. thought i read in another post where you said 4" caused a kink for you and that +3 would be perfect. thats why i ordered the 38649-08 or so i thought. if this really is the part number for the +3 cable, then the 38649-08A must be smaller. never occurred to me that it would be. i'm such a dope!

I actually had the cable run wrong, hence the kink. The +4 (when my dumb a$$ routs it right) works perfectly.

ok. crisis over. i went out and measured my old cable and yes it is around 62". then i ran picture hanging wire along my new installed cable and got a good estimate around 66" so i know i'm in the ballpark. it just didnt add up. then i did teutle jr. stare at the bike for a while and the duh..., yes - what a dumb a$$!!! it wasnt adjusted. after backing off the adjuster another 1.5" i realized i could make it work. not as much slack as the stock cable and bars, but i will feel ok and wont have to either rip the bike apart or route it in front of the fairing. thank you. thank you.
