First off, glad to hear you are doing OK. Banged up but looking to get back on the hors.....er bike. 
Second: I just put a Road Sofa on my 2014 Ultra Limited and yes it's hard but will soften. I have no issue with that after only an hour on the new seat. What did surprise me and I didn't think about until I sat on it and rode 10 feet? The height of the seat! I feel like i'm on an adventure bike. Too high for me. Saddlemen states it will lower 1/2 to 1" after time but I feel 3" higher than my old HD seat. Thinking now, Do I want to return it, if they take a return? Great quality seat, just not for me.

I really like the Step Up seat. I do not care for the Road Sofa. I have a Mustang Super Solo and pillion but the wife said it was too wide, and it kinda is. Makes my legs go numb from the halfway down my thighs and makes my legs hurt.

I have heard others say that. In retrospect , I'm going to check the local HD dealer and ask if they have one I can borrow for a day. A HD mechanic told me they sometimes have 1 on hand for that reason.

That’s the problem with custom seats, it may sit you higher or lower. In retrospect, if you’re considering a new windshield, wait until you purchase a new seat. The difference in your sitting position can definitely screw up your windshield height.
I ordered a ClearView GT 18’’ curved,clear shield for my 2021 Ultra Limited today. I want more protection for fall and winter weather. I’m riding with their 17 curved standard shield now.

I am selling the Step Up seat and ordering a new custom Step Up seat because I want gel in the rear too. That's all.
