Default Engine Guard

Was putting my new highway pegs and mounts on my engine guard yesterday. Well one of them slid on me and scratched the guard. I can deal with the light scratchs it put in it, but there is one scratch, about 3/8" long and very thin that is scratched through the chrome.... Does anybody know if there is anything I can do to repair it or keep that little scratch from starting to rust? I am thinking the only thing I will be able to do is buy a new one, am I correct on that?

Can try clear fingernail polish, or clear model paint...cheap fix.
