Default 1000 mile service on my new SG....

I bought my StreetGlide last week and have only 100 miles on it so far. Working alot and been raining here in Indiana. Hopefully put some on it today while I am off. I am wondering, should I "hurry" and try to get 1000 miles on it before I put it away for the winter so it will be sitting all winter with fresh fluids? Or am I worrying about something stupid?
Also, how detailed is the manual on these bikes for like the 1000 mile service. I am mechanical , so wondering if there is enough info there to walk me through everything that gets done at the 1000 mile service so i could do it myself and save the money? Just thinking ahead..

Ride it, get a SERVICE manual and don't worry so much!

Yes the manual walks you through pretty much everything. For anything else, there is Mastercard...Oh wait, I meant this forum A lot of folks have the dealer do the 1000 mile service just to make sure and/or it was included in their sale. However, should you choose to do it yourself don't overlook things like the critical fasteners and general overall inspection of things that you may think are minute, but are really not.

If you trust your dealer, I would have them do the 1k service - just to check for loose bolts, connections and other things that their techs are used to seeing on new bikes. After that a lot of people buy the service manual and follow the schedule themselves. Also, my dealer tossed the first service in when I bought the bike, so there was no cost involved.

Clean the bike thoroughly and note any and all scratches and blemishes it may have. Mine came home with a saddlebag rubbing the side cover and I just found where they scratched the heads either checking the spark plugs or the top engine mounting bracket. My last bike had fewer scratches in 2 years thn this one after the 1K service.[:@]
