the J&M 500w amplifier IS similar to the Arc Audio 500w amp internally, but externally, the J&M amp is smaller dimensionally, making it the only amplifier of it's power rating, that will fit inside the fairing of the Harley bat-wing or roadglide fairing ,,,,,

Hey John, Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I sent it both ways just in case you weren't monitoring this thread.

I like you amp, but my only concern at this point is the fader function. Your web site says you take the 2 channels from the stock HK head and amplify it into 4. That would mean I would have no separate control of the volume on the back speakers.

The ultras have a fader option, I am sure it's the exact same radio, maybe a different wiring harness or eprom download on the unit. How can I get that function with your amp?? Tell me you can do it and I'll put in an order.

zues33 ,,,,,

you would order the J&M 500w 4-channel amplifier configuration that we manufacture for the Ultra, to maintain front/rear fader capability ,,,,, see http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....AMP-500HC06-UL ,,,,

I'm running the 4 coaxials and 2 tweeters in the fairing with the midrange drivers for the component system in my lowers.
I did exactly the same thing that Pain did-- in fact I'm installing another set on my dads street glide this week.
Fosgate amp, 1652S seperates, and 1653 3 ways from Sonic Electronix shipped with an install kit are WAY less than buying the Yaffe kit--and exact same stuff.
I bought bag lids from Rockin Tops for $299, with an adapter ring the 6.5 speakers go right in.
http://www.rockntops.com/products.php
The bag acts like a chamber for the woofers and throw off alot of bass.
It is an easy weekend install, and sounds phenomenal.
I've heard both J&M and the bike tronics stuff--no rub on them, but my install is much louder and sounds much better.
Personally, I think the weak link in those kits is the factory radio. There is a dramatic improvement in quality by simply installing a better aftermarket headunit. I went with a pioneer mech-less ipod/pandora unit, my dad chose the kenwood pandora unit--these units have tons of features that the stock doesnt, as well as the ability to adjust the sound to your taste.
Concerns about them not being able to handle the bike environment seem to be a non-issue to me, since you can buy 3 or 4 of these for the cost of one HK unit.
Hell, I figure if the radio gets wet or something, I can throw it away and buy another several times before i get close to the price of a stock unit, with all its problems.

Is there anything else that I'd have to do to my HK radio to activate the fader? Or will it just work with what you sell me?

And another question, about mounting. I may want to add the HD XM module at a later date and I think it mounts in the space on top of the radio. I think from the pictures I've seen on your site you mount the amp on the side under one of the glove boxes right? So my question is, will there be any conflict with the brackets, or wiring that might interfere with with the XM unit?

ps. this is a total thread hijack. Hope the op doesn't mind.

Zues ,,,,,

front/rear fader will work just as it does now, when you install the J&M 500w 4-channel amp ,,,,

your XM module will simply relocate under the radio, inserted into the custom made J&M bracket system ,,,,

I guess I didn't ask the question very well. The thing is, because my model of RG only has front speakers there is no option for a fader. I want to have the fader. The wiring harness is the first thing, what else do I have to do.

I'm not even 100% sure that the HK unit has a fader on models with tourpack speakers. Maybe someone with an ulta can tell me.

You will need to tap into the rear speaker pin outs on the 35 pin connector going into the radio. harleypingman has a walkthrough posted on how to do this.

You will then need to goto your dealer to have the fader activated on the stereo.

Thanks Pc Pain. I will read hpm's post on that topic.

Back on topic of saddle bag lids....

Will the polk audio MM691 speakers...
http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/mm/specs.php#coaxialo
which have a cutout dimension of 5 1/2" x 8 3/8"

fit into the harley lids...

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_CA

I really like those lids, they take a 6x9 speaker and tilt it forward. I just wonder if it will accept a standard speaker.

Here's the thread on accessing the rear speaker pin-outs of the HK radio:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...head-unit.html

As for speaker fitment in the HD lids, the Rockford Fosgate 6x8's fit after using a Dremel to remove material from each speaker.

Right side:

http://

Left side:

http://

These are in-progress pics; the speakers have been cleaned up a bit. I checked with RF before removing any material and was told by a tech in their Customer Service that no damage would be done to the speaker.

Both right and left sides of the speakers required some material removal along their sides to fit the width of the HD lids, and the left side required more material removal at the front to provide room for the grille to be installed. I also used KB Stik at the rear of the left side speaker to provide a better seal; there was a small gap between the rear of the lid and the speaker's frame.

As for the Polk's speakers' fitment, you can compare the RF T1682 speaker size to the Polks; the RF size is on their website.

My primary interest in the RF's is that they are one of a small selection of oval speakers that use a bridge to mount the tweeter. HD's two 5x7 speakers (one version is 2 ohm, the other is 1 ohm) use a bridge to mount the tweeter rather than a stalk mounted through the woofer cone--probably to avoid water intrusion at the stalk.
