Been there done that, the fluking for the primary gasket, my guts liked to fall
out right at the counter, the probe was so deep! It was about 18 mo. ago for
a 08 RKC. I try not to buy anything at the HD stealer, but sometime they
catch me short, and I needed it yesterday.
I was thinking it was miss priced and even ask the guy to recheck the price!
And was wondering it they were laughing when I walked out????? Tenn.Vol.

Check out Cyco gaskets; about half price and good quality. They have all standard and SE gaskets, seals and oring but do not carry base gaskets in over bore sizes, i.e., 4.125" etc, but will have them available soon.

I see!
I've never opened my primary chaincase cover yet.

Can you determine if the primary chain tensioner is worn thru the derby cover? Do you have to drain the oil to do it if possible. The local dealer said that for an 07 flh you can buy the shoe without the whole mechanism??

I have the original primary, inspection and derby cover O ring on my 2000 FLTRSEI. Thats with being in the primary twice, at 32 K and again at 62 K to replace the stator. I've had the inspection cover off so many times for 5 K service that I've had to tap the screw holes to 5/16" but still run the same 11 year old gasket.

The other side, not so lucky. Tore the cam cover on one of my tensioner inspections, and tore the clutch actuator cover gasket when I changed exhaust systems. Have put 3 O rings on drain plugs since the big was new.

86,000 miles and no leaks. (The guys at the office would have a field day with me if it did.)

I never thought they would last this long, and it would / will be a pain to pull a cover off again and finally get a new gasket from the Dealer someday when I do get a leak, but how much time and money have I saved over the past decade? These bikes are not my old shovel which would leak when it was OUT of oil. The machining / fitment is vastly better than it was AMF era.

I think a lot of guys would find the same success if they tried to put the old undamaged cover gaskets back on.

I always go with James metal core gaskets. About the same price, but they never leak and you can reuse them a couple of times.

I bet my local dealer is asking more than that considering they get $13.95 for BLACK 5 micron oil filter and $7.95 for a std. 6R12 piug.

Oh yeah! I went to the dealer last week to get a new pigtail for my battery tender for $7.95. The parts girl asked me of I'd like an extra 7.5 amp fuse. I said sure, and didn't realize til I got home that it cost $4.95

I feel the pain. It's hard to support a good local dealership when prices are so high on simple off the shelf parts - and yes I am mindful that the dealers don't set the price.
