Default Anyone have a Clearview shield shatter?

All this talk about Acrylic or Polycarbonate windshields has me concerned.
Has anyone with a Clearview shield have their windshield shatter after a rock hit it.. or for any other reason...?

Would like a real world answer.

Nope. I've had small rocks hit it in traffic, but recently had a piece of asphalt shot straight at me. By the time I saw it, it was to late to duck. It hit the top of the Clearview shield and bounced off without an issue. That would have left a nasty mark, glad the shield did it's job.

I never heard of such a problem, but that doesn't mean it is impossible.

22" clearview on my RK and have been struck by gravel chips and small stones with no problems. (Nobody has taken a large rock or a shotgun to it yet)

I have a Clearview for my ultra limited but can't remember if it's acrylic or polycabonate so I voted for polycarbonate, no damage.

Smile No way

It's impossible. I machined my own out of polycarbonate. I bandsawed the material close to the finish dimensions, then machined the radius on the top. At the crux of the radius, that is the very center at the top, there was probably a 1/16 of an inch connecting the left and right side pieces. I could not seperate these two pieces, by folding back and forth, up and down over and over. This stuff is tough. Maybe that's why they use the thicker stuff for bullet proof glass.

I broke two of them, but I'm not like most people, I can break anything. Both cracked around the screw holes. One from hitting a bird and bending the shield back and the other from over tightening a screw.

I haven't heard of this either. Mine has been in use for >4 years and ~43k miles. Not sure about its composition, although the CV site says they are "acrylic blend." I'll vote acrylic, no cracks.
