What's my options for upgrading to braided front brake lines on a ABS bike? Is there an option to replace just the lower line or is it all one piece from the factory?
you can changbe the line from your master cyl, and from the pump to the calipers but you will have to use multiple connectors (banjo fittings) to make it work, I changed my line from the m/c to the pump, and that was a little work, but very doable
Magnum brake lines makes lines (available out of drag)..a line from the master cylinder that is available in different lengths that connect to a pre-measured line that runs back to the box, and they have the return line from the box to the calipers..again pre-measured. Very easy when they do all the work!
you certainly can, I just changed out my bars and I had the option of just doing the upper line and leaving the lower lines alone, I was going steel braided so I change them both out, the HD bottoms are very expensive like 200 bucks.
Make sure you get the gaskets for ABS brakes. THey are supposedly different from std.
If you're doing it yourself, you might have to visit the dealer to reprogram the ABS module if you change anything back to the module itself.
So I can replace the line from the abs pump to the front calipers and leave the other line alone?
So what are you trying to accomplish really? It's not a very common question is why I ask. Most are doing bars and need an extended top line and not the bottom lines. And if they need bottom lines its usually because of appearance and therefore replace both top and bottom so they match.
