I'm getting ready to remove the CAT and that should give it a little more rumble. I'm over the whole loud pipe thing but I do like a little rumble.
Strange. My new 103 bike has a nice rumble already.....going down the road it has a nice mellow tone. My XIEDS will be for cooling the motor down, but I'm hearing they also have the added effect of giving it a lower, deeper tone.

3 posts back to back. I guess this topic is of great interest to me!

I took off my stock header and pipes before I had even drove the thing. I must admit that when the dealer dropped it off and fired it up to pull it in the garage I almost **** because it sounded so good with the stock pipes. Didn't expect it to have the growl like it did? Anyways I took everything off before 1st actual ride and do not have any regrets

Weather update here in WNY, 24 degrees and snow.
I've owned a 2008 SG for about a year now and I'm still running stock pipes. I'm fine with the sound & performance. I think that my biggest reason for holding off on changing them has to do with other people I ride with. Most of them have after market exhaust and a couple of them, I absolutely DREAD riding next to because they're just too damn loud! I can hardly hear myself think, let alone trying to hear the radio or carry on a conversation with my passenger (even on the headset). Basically, I don't get louder pipes because I don't want to be a major annoyance to those around me.

I purchased a 2011 FLHTC last November and am quite happy with the sound and performance of the stock pipes. Am concerned a bit with the heat, but so far riding in 20-30 degree weather that has not been a problem!

And as another poster said...I do not care for loud pipes. I believe they create too many negatives in regards to the non-riding public. I like a nice sounding bike and car but I see no reason for obnoxiously loud vehicles.

Still have th original stock exhaust on my UC, but machined out the tail cone baffle on the mufflers. gives it a nice mello rumble on accelerations and quiet enogh for long rides in federal parks and not annoy rangers or other visitors.

Well I bit the bullet and I'm going with the AC they have on the CVO's, Fuel Moto head pipe and the new Supertrapp Stouts on my 11 Limited. Trying to address heat and better performing engine without a lot of noise. The Stouts are SAE-J2825 sound compliant but flow much better should be just marginally louder which is fine with me as I do not like loud pipes. I will let you all know how it all works out when I pick it up next week.

Have never ran stock pipes on either of my bikes. IMO after market sound better.

The first time in August when you and your lady burn your thighs from the cat, you might be rethinking this decision. There are many choices in pipes and mufflers without having to go loud, while improving performance and cooling it down. Good luck

I'm still running stock pipes and mufflers. I do want to change out for some Monster Rounds and maybe True Duals (along with the rest of a Stage 1), but unfortunately, I need to save some coins first.

I picked up my used SG at the dealer in Charlotte, NC and drove it straight (bypassing home) to my mechanic's shop in Beford, Virginia. When I picked it up the next day it had true duals, A/C and a tuner installed. I didn't want to ride it another minute stock...
