Is it true about Harley Downloads now?
I went to a dealer and asked to get a quote for installing the Hi-Flow air cleaner (I already have the pipes).
He quotes me a price. I asked if that includes the download. He said it is for a race tuner and dyno time.
I asked why, cant you just do a download direct to my ecm? His reply was that Harley changed how they do that now. He said they used to have a catalog of downloads but now they come right from Harley not the dealer... for 170 bucks.
I said, whatever... 170 bucks is better than the cost of the Race Tuner and the dyno.
He told me to call his manager on monday.
What is this crap. Anyone hear that the downloads are not available for the bikes at the dealer?

Installing the a/c is really quite simple. Consider doing it yourself and saving a few bucks.
My understanding is that the downloads are obtained by the dealer from the MoCo and uploaded to your ECM. The last time I checked locally, they were $150. The other option is to buy a tuner. If you're not planning any other mods, a download my be all you need. But, the dealer will tell you that you pay for it but there are no guarantees.

Go to tuneyourharley.com and look at niterider.com They explain everything about the ECM and how Xieds work. They are inexpensive and they work great. If you are not planning cams or big bore kits, they are all you need with stage1. I've had them on three baggers now including my wifes 2010 SG Trike with the 103 engine. Shes running the same setup as me, except she still has the stock headpipe.

I paid $170 for the Stage 1 download. Dealership told me that since I purchased it from them (or from the MoCo, whatever) it was now in "the system". Supposedly, I can get it reinstalled for whatever reason, if necessary, at any dealership. Don't know if it's true or not, and hoping I don't have to find out.
