Default How to remove speedo cable from front wheel - 99 Ultra

I got my first ride of the season in yesterday! A fairly short ride (about 50 miles) but a good start. When I got home and was giving the scoot a good cleaning, I noticed that the front tire is getting a little thin, still enough tread to be safe, but I decided to order a new front tire. As I was going over the wheel removal instructions in the repair manual (I always like to look over the instructions well in advance of attempting any work) I came to the part where it says "remove the speedometer cable from the front wheel". It doesn't say how the cable is secured, though. I pulled back the boot that covers the cable connection and looked around the gear housing, and cannot figure out how the cable is held in place. I don't want to just start pulling or twisting without knowing what the trick is.
Can anyone clue me in as to how to disconnect the cable from the wheel without damaging it?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

The speedometer sending unit and cable should slide off when you remove the axle.

The speedo drive is rather like a spacer on the axle and is a light fit in the wheel bearing oil seal. It may need a gentle pull to disengage it from the wheel. It engages with the wheel by a small 'finger' that fits into a hole in the rotor. When refitting, make sure you get them to engage with each other correctly. All will become clear when you dismantle it!

Thanks for the info! I am not going to loosen anything up until I get the new tire and I'm ready to take the wheel off. I just couldn't see any way of disconnecting the cable from the sending unit as it sits, but it makes sense now. Thanks again!
