Default 2500 mile service plans ?

So.. I've got my Harley for sale with 3500 miles on it. A guy sends me an E-mail and wants to know if I've done the recommended 2500 mile service on it. When I respond that I've done the 1K and the next recommended one is first at 5K, he tells me that I should have done a 2500 service on it because that's what HIS dealership says. I told him that Harley Davidson doesn't recommend that, but this guy seems to think that whatever his local dealership is telling him is what needs to be done.

He sends me a link from his local dealership to prove what he is telling me and when you look at what they are doing each 2500 miles it's really an oil/filter change and the normal things you are supposed to do each and every time you ride your bike according to the rule of T-CLOCKS. I just wonder how many other people are buying into this 2500 mile service plan ?

So now what do I do ? Try to educate this guy, or pass up a sale or ?

Sounds like the dealer is trying to make some extra cash. Do the services at the intervals listed in the manual and they can stuff the rest.

Tell him that he can have it done himself after he buys it or you will raise the price of the bike to cover it if you do it. Or tell him to shove it and go buy another one.

Oooh, no way I'd buy a bike with 3500 miles on it without having had the 2500 mile service done, it might blow up!

If you can't believe the service manual, what can you believe?

Tell him to feel free to have the extra service done after he buys the bike.

Or if he's that fawking worried about it,He can arrange to have his dealer do an inspection on his dime before he buys it.

You ruined that bike. I guess I've ruined all of mine too though. A buddy I ride with ruined his bike along time ago because he just turned 94K. I don't think the guy even did the 5K maintenance! If I can get 94K out of my ruined bike I'll be happy.

Lol... I hear ya. The customer is always right and I'd hate to lose a sale over it, so I'll just play along with him. However, It makes me think that there are people that have no mechanical abilities and feel safe bringing their bike in every 2500 miles. I guess I can't diss the guy if he's one of those that have enough money to buy a Harley, don't know the first thing about wrenching on a bike and need to have it checked out every 2500 miles. To each his own.
