Polk Audio MM6501 Components Installed
#11
In my case it was an easy decision. I have an 09 FLHT and it didn't come with the two lower gauges. This being the case, I opted for components with separate tweets for those empty gauge slots. I did put the fuel/volt gauges in the lower spots and the tweets up. These slots are 3" higher/1" wider on center and bring the sound field better in line with my head. My winter decision will be whether or not to swap out speakers. I've kinda narrowed it down to Focal IS 165's or Polk Audio MM6501's. I currently have Memphis Audio MClass 15-MCS6 components with an additional set of tweeters in the gauge slots http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/produ...nent-speakers/ . They sound very nice but not the most efficient at 88db/sensitivity. Just want to make sure I'm not spending the cash for little gain ...

Something doesn't seem right if you have to run amp gains full out. What's your input source..... CD? Arc Audio Mpak recommends turn both adjustments up till the indicator is just past vertical and pointing between the “A” & “I” on the writing on the word “Gain”. This was plenty when I used to run a stock HU.
AMP Configuration: Gain L/R all the way up (I might try to lower this a bit, but am trying to not have to turn the Stock HU up to loud to get my desired volume, this should reduce any distortion. Set the amp crossover to about 90Hz, Output to High, and Bass Boost to zero.
Harley HU Setup: I try to keep the volume around 4 bars, but that is not quite loud enough for windy highway speeds, probably end up around 6 bars in bad conditions. I have bass and treble set to 4 bars (less than half way). Make sure to turn AVC off as this can easily damage your equipment.
