Default Noise in Primary

Ok I noticed a few weeks ago that my bike developed a noise in the primary after I got on it real hard then immediately let off the throttle. It stated making a "clunking" sound for lack of a better word. I accelerated and let off quickly repeatedly and it kept making the noise. Well I initially thought the compensating nut had loosened up. I pulled off the primary cover and checked the nut and it is plenty tight. But while I had the socket on there I spun the primary chain using the compensating nut then immediately reversed it and it made the noise again.

I also noticed the cover behind the compensating nut that says " caution no sharp blows" can wobble. Is this normal?

Any idea what could be causing this wierd noise while i got it apart?

You probably need to check the run out on the crankshaft.

Default Compensator

Either your compensator spring pack took a crap or crankshaft issue. I have a whole compensator that i took off a 2010 Road Glide that i will give you cheap if it's any help.

If you have a pre 11, your comp is probably shot.
Put an SE comp in and it'll solve a lot of issues.
Checking crank runout is a good idea too.
Also check your autotensioner for wear.
Is the noise coming from your comp?
If its around the clutch/trans area, you could have other issues.

I have the outer cover off. Its definitely in the compensator area. I have an 04 bike. I think the SE compensator is just for the newer bikes isn"t it?

SE Comp for 07 and up. Did you check the torque on the comp nut? There are aftermarket options for the comp for your year I believe.

It was very very hard to break loose. I would say it was torqued. So is there a spring inside it?

I'd pull it apart and check things out. Check the sliding cam, rotor, spring pack

Ok I pulled everything apart last night and nothing is broke visibly. It definitely looks like the sound is coming from the Compensator cover. Sounds like the compensator is just slapping up against the spring washers instead of compressing them and is making a banging sound. I pulled the stack up of 4 spring washers out. Nothing broke but I guess they could be flattened a little. I could not find in the manual how to inspect this. Does anyone know what the stack-up height should be to know if they are worn?

Is is possible the bushing from the crankcase "walked" out and is keeping the cover and compensator from being in position? I have never been in a crankcase before so not sure how all that works.
