Isn't the SE 6 speed a true overdrive?
According to my 2005 H-D catalog, the SE 6 speed is a true overdrive with 1-5 duplicating the original 5 gears.

correct, the SE is a true overdrive...the Baker DD6 is not a true overdrive but when you speed up the primary with a 28 tooth it duplicates the 3:37 gearing some of you have changed to in the first 5 and then 6th acts as an overdrive(actually is) at either .80 or .89 to 1 depending on what gears you select for 1st

Just not practical for me I know a lot of people who have six speeds I just have never thought or wanted one probably the last change I would make to my bike. I do know guys who have changed gearing in the primary to make the six speed more usable but to me that defeats the purpose guess im not concerned about the rpms I turn @ high speeds Ill just get to do the top end sooner that way something new and diffrent.

Well, some of us must be different. I use 6th anytime I'm at 65 or over. I really like it. This '07 Ultra will run circles around my old '05 Heritage. Yes, it pings a little when going up a hill. Also, what is meant by 1 to 1? The specs state that the new transmission has a different ratio for each gear compared to last year's 5 speed. Ratio for 6th is 2.79. I'm not a purist like some of you guys. I just ride the **** out of it. If it breaks, I'll fix it. If it breaks bad, I'll replace it. As long as it's making noise, it's running.

Ain't that the truth!

I-25 in New Mexico from Raton to Las Cruces is 75 mph except for a couple of short stretches... dangit if I ain't gotta downshift going through Albuquerque!

Dropping into 6th at 80ish is a beautiful thing. On the RKC 5 spd I'm always looking for another gear on the way past 75, now I got it, thank you very much!

I vote for AFTERBURNER!

it depends on which gear set you got. I did the 6 gears set into 5 case in 2004. My six is .86 which is an OD trans. The newer 6 speeds use different primary sprokets to arrive at a lower rpm range at 70 mph verses the 5 speed primary.

I'm pleased with 6th. gear being designed where it is in within the spacing, the torque curve and such. Kinda like a Ferrari Testosterone-osa's top gear.... great long legs when I can sometimes use it.

Moco should somehow have done an explanation of what the real-world use of it was going to be though. I'll bet the attorney's & Federal relations folks vetoed that though.

I'm happy with it!.... and seem to have control today of my tragic coffee & Jelly Belly addiction problem.
