Default Oil cooler...

I'm looking for thoughts on adding and oil cooler...Would you add the cooler before or after the initial break in period, and perhaps more importantly why?
I am going to add the HD oil cooler, just thought I'd ask if you folks had some thoughts as to when this should be done.

Had my oil cooler added at the first service since the filter had to be removed.

Get a 90+ degree day and stop & go traffic and you will wish you had a cooler.

Install it at the next scheduled oil change. I have the HD cooler and had no problems with it for the last 3 years.

I've got a cooler.

I dunno if I needed it or not. I read Donny Petersen's Vol 2 and he said it is cheap insurance. I'm cheap, so I got a cooler.

I add coolers on day one with a new bike. Why? It is part of a performance gain. Cooler motors run stronger and last longer. Who would not want that for about $180.

Nice saying - cooler motors run stronger and last longer. Maybe I should copyright it.

HD motors are both air cooled and oil cooled. The EVO motor relied almost half on oil cooling with its smaller fins. Some HD's have oil cooled heads. Some have a pan the has a maze in it to increase the contact time to release heat into the bottom of the pan. Some have larger oil pump to use the spray to help cool.

If they only relied on the cooling fins those suckers would melt.

Look for more oil cooling strategies from HD as the years pass.

Add the cooler at the next oil change. Why, because when the filter comes off to the install the cooler adapter it makes a mess and you might as well do an oil change at the same time if you're gonna make a mess. And if you're gonna do it you'll need a 7/16" hex(allen) socket to install the adapter, have it on hand.
