Unhappy Sounds like a bearing going out... 09 FLHX

Well, jumped on my bike Sunday to go for a ride and once I got up to around 40 I heard the noise. Turned the radio all of the way down and there is definitely a grinding coming from somewhere. I bought new brake pads thinking it might be the pads but after getting the new pads home and looking at the ones on there, it is not the pads. No grooving on the brake discs.
Any one else have this problem ? What was it ?

I had the same issue. 09 SG with 3,000 miles. Grinding/squeaking sound from front end. I took the wheel off to inspect and discovered the bearings were the problem. I called my dealer when they opened on a Saturday morning and they had a trailer to pick it up at my house within 1 1/2 hrs. Done on Monday with new bearings. Very impressive service!

There was a problem with wheel bearings on the '09's with solid wheels. From first hand experience and from what my dealer told me, sand was left inside the solid wheels axle bore and has been chewing up bearings. My front wheel had so much in there that you could hear hit moving around once the wheel was removed from the bike and tilted back and forth. I had both front & rear wheel bearings replaced, so I'm hoping that's the end of the issue. Of course HD has no knowledge of this !!!!!!

Well good, that gives me hope that it's not the tranny or something going out... I might be riding this weekend after all.

Cool Seems it might be the tranny...

I just got a call from the shop, they found metal shavings in the tranny oil so they think a tranny bearing is going out. I always heard a small amount of noise when I was in a lean on the bike, maybe that was it all this time. Now I'm definitely glad that I bought the extended warranty...
Hmmm, the bike is already in the shop, maybe now is the time for a 204 cam install. I'll really only loose this weekend and maybe another day in the shop.

The 204 will move your trq band around 3500 rpm. You would be better served by the 255. They are lower in the rpm range. But if you won't it higher go for it. Also if you have some extra cash go ahead and go 103 kit they may give you a deal on it If you ask. I know some others have gotten one anyway.

When I had my 09, I took it to the dealer for the front tire replacement deal and when I picked it up, thet told me they also replaced the front bearing under warranty. It had been making no noise yet, but the tech knew to check it as there were problems with them. Said as he spun the wheel, he could tell it showed early signs of failure.
