Default 37871-98A Clutch Spring

Getting ready to take my 2010 Ultra Cassic in to have work done on it to let it breath. Take the EPA out of it This is what I have for parts. Andrews 48H cam, S&S ez install pushrods, SE air cleaner, Vance & Hines ProPipe Chrome, SE compensator, SE Pro SuperTuner .I bought this Ultra Classic to cruise . I do not hot rod it, take it past 4K RPM, or shock the drivetrain. I have had hot rodded softails in the past and I am past that. In other words I am getting old

They are going to have the primary cover off to install the a SE compensator so I thought about changeing out the clutch spring. I am interested in beefing the clutch a little bit to reduce or keep it from slipping after the mods are done. I think the SE 37951-98 (175KG) is overkill for my application.

Will the 37871-98a (145kg) clutch spring work in my bike and what can I expect? Anything special I need to know about the installation in my bike?

Thanks
Tim

I am running an AIM 340 lb spring(+ a VPC 92T on top) on my 103 and I think it is the perfect bridge between a stock spring and the SE Heavy(37951-98) which is 380 lbs, I think the 145kg(320 lbs) should be fine in your case, if you think you need a little more you can try the 340. There are 2 Aim springs,340 and 480, that are the same price as the SE springs, 30 bucks. They have 2 others as well.

I run the -98A spring. The stock is 300lbs, -98A 330lbs and SE 380lbs. I think it is perfect. It's slightly harder than stock, but not as hard as the SE. It will handle a built 103 no problems at all.

Isn't the stock spring on the 08 and later Touring the 280 spring?

i put the 98A spring in when i did my cams. not sure that it was needed but the stock clutch feels so light and i do like the occasional burnout or wheelie so i did it. pull feels like my stock '02 did now, not heavy but not so light like the new stock clutches. it feels better all around to me whether just leaving the line hard or doing slow figure eights....

The stock spring seems to be fine for most with mild builds like yours. I have the 255 cams, which are similar to the 48H you are planning on installing, and have had no problems in two years. OTOH if I were to install a beefier spring it would be the -98A.

Default doing the same thing

I put the 175kg spring in my clutch after doing the 103 255 cam kit. not bad for the odd shift on the hiway but drive it around town for hours and its a killer. just bought the se compensator for my bike and will be putting the 98a 145kg spring in. my problem is that I have 2 spring plates somewhere in my garage and one is from a 2004 dyna that according to the dealer is 135 kg and I have another that is from my 2003 ultra that is the 98a model at 145kg.
once you take the springs out of the bags they come in there is no way to tell one from the other, they aren't marked. I hope I marked them years ago when I changed them out , I would prefer the 145kg with my engine build. still hoping to do the heads and pipes and hopefully hit 100 hp and 110 torque

When they did my 2nd mainshaft bearing replacement they had a -98A spring laying around and they put it in for me and I like the difference.

Ordered the 98A spring for my bike . After doing a search on this forum
on the topic of clutch springs I just wanted a confirmation that I was going in the right direction.

Thanks to everybody who answered this post. I am mostly a looker, but this has to be the best forum for content and members.

Thanks
Tim
