I was rear ended a few years ago and I basically had to do nothing. My bike was hauled to where I wanted it fixed, and when it was done, I rode it away. I didn't do a thing except call the dealer a time or two to see first off if his insurance company gave them any grief, "no", and secondly to find out when the bike would be ready. The only part that really sucked was waiting for the bike to be fixed. I needed a new fender, and pretty much everything attached to it like the taillight and blinkers. New saddlebag guards (scratched up), crash bars (bent), and a new tank (dent). It came back looking like new. I even got a new rear tire out of it. I was stopped at a stop sign and the guy behind was stopped. All of a sudden he rolled forward, hit me, and it knocked me and the bike down. No real injuries.

Thanks every one of your comments they are all appreciated. I am going to the tow yard today to get the bike and take it to the dealer. I will post a couple of pics and give a more detailed account of what happen for HOGNOT. I will try not to exaggerate my experience. Thanks again. David

absolutely!! Preventing a rear-ender is the reason I spent the cash for a BrightAss light. Definately worthwhile if they keep me out of the hospital & the bike out of the shop!

Glad to hear you were not seriously injured. Just be sure you don't have any injuries that will give you trouble later. I'm glad the person that hit you has a good insurance company. So many are being hit by Illegals and others with no Insurance. Keep us posted as to how this turns out for you. Hope you are back on your bike soon. Good Luck!!!

Well here are the pictures for the tow yard. I was hoping to get her off the lot but the rear fender is wedge against the tier and was unable to move the bike. The tow yard policy is that I cannot work on the bike or remove anything while it is on the property. At this point Geico is going to get the bike and bring it to their shop and determine what they are going to do from there.

Here is my perspective. I was heading South on Paradise Road approaching Tropicana Ave traveling about 25 miles per hour when the car in front of my was stopping I applied my breaks and the next thing I heard was the sound of metal and fiberglass breaking. I felt myself being thrown backwards and I saw blue skies and then the pavement. The officer told me that I traveled about 40 feet from impact and the bike went about 50 feet when it hit the trailer hitch of the jeep. When I tried to get up I was facing oncoming traffic and I remember seeing the line of cars with the drivers white knuckled holding the steering wheels and that deer in the headlight stare. A off duty fireman immediately told me to lay down and not to move and to wait for paramedics and police officers. I was wearing a full face helmet motorcycle riding jacket and gloves. As I laid there looking thru my visor opening every one took a turn to ask me how I was. The gal that hit me was crying and kept saying that she was sorry, I think she was in her late teens and was going home from working at the Hard Rock. She told the office that she did not see me stopping and when she did her foot slipped off the brake pedal. The office verified her statement from the lack of skid marks on the road. No one else was injured and every one drove away the accident except for me, I get to take a ride in the ambulance but darn no light and sirens ‘Code 3 (?)’…. Of course Kim (aka Wife) has told me that she does not want me riding anymore, so I guess I will take up under water basking weaving…. Can I park my bike at someone else’s house.. Just kidding Kim…

Thank you for your help and support and words or encouragement. **** happens and there are two kind of riders.. Ones that have falling and other that will fall. Thanks again every one.

What a shame, It looks like you had it fixed up really nice with accessories. Glad you had a good Helmet and proper gear on. Hate to see you give up what you love to do. The same can happen in a cage.

Well here is a interesting twist Geico wanted me to take the bike to Arlen Ness and told me that they would guarantee the work for the life of the bike. I could still take it to a HD dealer but he really did the hard sale for Arlen Ness. I did agree to it but with mixed feelings. The big but was that HD dealers will not repair frames and if Geico felt that the frame could be repaired then they would not cover the cost and it would have to go to another shop. Any thoughts....

I'm shocked Geico would think its ok to fix the frame if the manufacturer doesn't How would that play out in a civil court if the repair failed, causing a serious accident?

I know a frame could be repairable even though the manufacturer won't for liability reasons but its hard to argue against the ultimate expert - the manufacturer!

very surprising to me.

Sorry to hear of your accident but happy to learn that you are ok. I would definitely have that shoulder checked by a specialist; torn rotator cuff or other injury may not show up right away but it is a real life changer and requires surgery to repair. Also, remember that the adjuster's job is to save money for his employer whether it is your insurance company or the other party's provider. As a minimum, I would want an estimate from the dealer before sending it off to Ness. Problem with frame repair is that it could change the status of the bike on resale. Lastly, get acquainted with the claim laws of your state because insurance companies are notorious for dragging out claims so that your time to press for settlement runs out. After my last experience with being re-ended (while in my car) I decided I would hire an attorney and let them manage the settlement process. Good luck!
