Ok simple although I understand less heat with no cat that being said does a stage 1 have to have new header 2 1 2 which means no cat or can you leave the cat and just get A/C and PCV????? I already have Jackpot 4" slips on my 2011 103 SG...... I know I've read about this b4 but CRS has ahold of my brain

Yes an air cleaner and slip-ons is my understanding of a stage 1. Cat or no cat. as soona s you change the air intake you need a tuner to get things richer. now if you get rid of the cat it is more flow yet thus need more fuel.

That is correct if that's all you want to do right now. I installed a set of SE slip-on's Stage 1 all before I had 2500 miles on the '09.

All Stage 1 does is add a less restricted HD air cleaner and raise the RPM limit to 6200 RPM. It does nothing to the fuel management system. Harley can not make any changes to the fuel management due to EPA regulations. You can add aftermarket exhaust and an upgraded A/C without changing the fuel management system. The computer will make adjustments accounting for the increased air flow and adjust accordingly and keep everything in the very lean, very hot EPA F/A ratios.

I would look at a K&N AC and the new non EPA TTS (old HD race Tuner) fuel managment system.

So you are saying that a stage 1 is an air cleaner and a rev extender, and that the OEM ECM is intuitive and capable of compensating for an air cleaner and exhaust change. Those 2011s have come a long way. In 2006 a stage 1 was defined as a less restrictive air cleaner, free flowing exhaust, and a tuning device of some sort. Guess I need to pay attention to the changing world around me.

Well my recent dealer accident when my mike was on its side in their traler is costing a bit I was hoping they would finish my stage 1. I already have FM Jackpot 4" slipons that I haven't got to ride with yet but a PCV and air cleaner would make me and my bike happy I would do the 2 1 2 free flowing header later. Not sure they'll go for it though....we'll see

Stage 1:

1. More airflow via new intake, new larger A/C
2. More airflow via new exhaust, more free flowing exhaust
3. New Tuner to control the amount of fuel.

This is my understanding of what happens for a stage 1 mod.

I did the FuelMoto upgrade.

I did the Stage 1 on the 08 UC I had, plus the 2010 RK I have now and my wifes 2010 SG Trike with the 103 engine without doing the rev-limiter change.
I put on A/C, Exhaust and Xied's. Bike's run great!
