There is no l/r balance control on the radio.

Also, you need to brush up on your terminology regarding series and parallel wiring. Wiring speakers in series raises the impedance the amp sees; parallel wiring reduces the imedance seen by the amp.

Keep us posted on your project. I'm sure plenty here will be interested in what you come up with.

If the elf amp is the same as the ARC, yes you can fit two of them in your fairing. When I bought my J & M amp, it came with a bracket so that you could move your c.b. module underneath the head unit. Since I don't have a c.b. I could have put one amp above, and one amp below the HK head unit. By the way, J & M's amp is the same as the ARC, just rebadged. So, if you don't have to have a c.b., you could definitely put two amps the size of the ARC's in your fairing, no problem.

drz400222....Kind of doing the same thing. I have a Road Glide, so I won't be much help on mounting 2 amps under your fairing. I am running 2 ARC 125.2's with 4-6.5 Infinity 62.9i speakers. The speakers are 2 ohm. 2 in the fairing and 2 in the lower fairing's, each pair powered buy it's own amp. Going by the amp specs, that will be 125 watts per speaker. I have the upper fairing setup now, waiting to get my lowers back from the painter to finish. With just the 2 in the upper fairing right now....it really rocks!! So I can just imagine how the 4 will be. Keep us posted!!

Opps i looked it up, i had the wiring right in my head just got the wording all wrong.

And about the balance, darn Wisconsin winters. Its been way to long since I've been on the bike, don't even know whats on there anymore.

Yeah, my short-term memory not's so great either.

As for mounting two ARC/ELF amps inside an EG/SG fairing, I'd be cautious about that plan. You won't fit two above the radio, and mounting one below the radio may not be possible. I say that because I have a CB module mounted below the radio, albeit w/o benefit of J&M's brackets, and it's a tight fit. The ARC/ELF amp is sufficiently larger/taller than the amp that I doubt it will mount below the radio.

Whatever you do, take some pics and do a write-up to share with others.

I am an Electronics Engineer, but I did not want to tell him he was wrong. No harm done..

Default 2011 CVO SG upgrade

You'd also need the dealer to use the Digital Technician to turn on the HK's fader control if it is not already turned on; mine did it for free, but it shouldn't cost more than a 1/2 hour labor and may be much less than that.

When I added the '11 CVO SG speaker boxes, I did it with the four-channel set-up on the HK radio, but ran the fairing speakers w/o an add-on amp, and used the Arc 125.2 amp for the fairing lower speakers. The '11 CVO SG doesn't use the fader control for the fairng and fairing lower speakers, so it's not like the fader control is required for that speaker configuration. Having the fader control has been very nice to have on my bike.

Harleypingman,
I have a 2011 CVO SG and was wanting to upgrade my audio system - am waiting for the J&M 500w system to come out - but was wondering how to add the fader control to my system from my HK unit to send more volume to the lowers as I can't hear the stock ones at all now. Do I need additional parts from Harley or will just having the radio flashed to use the fader control be all I need?

The rear speaker signal on the Harman Kardon head unit are in the 35 wire connector on the back of the radio. This connector is used for your Ipod module, but the rear speaker signals aren't used; the front fairing signals are sent to the amp on your bike where it is split for the fairing, tweeters, and fairing lower speakers.

It'd be easy to access the rear speaker pinouts by removing the seal pins (basically blanks used to seal the unused chambers in the connector) and replace them with the wires for the fairing lower speakers. You'll need to buy the sockets that go on the ends of the wires prior to inserting them in the connector. They're HD p/n 72381-98; you'll need four, but buy a couple extra in case you mess up the crimps. You'll want to use an open barrel crimp tool to attach the sockets to the wires. Once the wires are inserted into the connector, you'll need to splice those wires to the wires going to your fairing lower speakers.

With a flash from the dealer, you should have fader control of the fairing and fairing lower speakers.

If you use the J&M amp, you'll probably need to change out the fairing and fairing lower speakers since they are 1 ohm impedance, while the J&M amp is 2 ohm.

Good luck with your project.
