The cross beam under the bike frame is a real good reference for balance. I do agree that it is worthwhile upgrading to a better jack. You won't believe the difference.

I had mine on the craftsman jack most of the winter and had the hole front end off of the bike.and that was my ultra. With the front end removed I could still turn the bike around and it never feet unstable.as others have said make sure its centered on the stand, lock the saport bracket and get on with your work

Go under from the right side..... DO NOT RETRACT THE SIDE STAND. If the jack bleeds down, the bike will fall over with the side stand retracted.

Or.... buy a better lift

My cheap craftsman works great, my bikes lowered so I roll the rear wheel onto a 2x4 in order to get the jack under the frame

Does a ATV jack have the same skids as a MC jack? Are they the same thing?

I have a good quality MC cycle jack (senior moment) that was a little scary the first couple of times but it is a piece of cake to do now. Like someone mentioned have someone help you the first time might be a good idea.
