I say "Good-bye" with much sadness....

Probably not going to be a popular post, but this is a particular hot button topic for me. When I graduated high school in the mid 80's my father had made it perfectly clear that he was going to pay for one year of college ONLY to help me get started. I couldn't have agreed with him more and would have never been able to live with myself if he had sold his beloved boat to pay for my school. Long story short it took me 10 years to get my degree (6 years in the Marine Corps and 4 years of school on the GI bill), but I'm convinced that I'm a much better man than if I had simply let daddy pay. And as an added bonus we had some great days out fishing on the boat when I came home on leave instead of standing looking at a dead patch of grass in the side yard where the boat used to be. Boat or bike, the idea is the same.
Now back to the fond farewells...

Have enjoyed and learned from your posts, and hope you continue to hang around anyway.
I agree with what some of the others have said, but it doesn't matter what I think, the decision is yours, and you will do what is right for you I'm sure. But, if I were you, I would (and you probably have) read and consider what the others have said as part of my decision making process. There have been some good points made.
(I sold my 1100 Virago in the early nineties because of a couple of girls and school/car issues, so I understand where you are coming from.)

Family 1st!
I feel the sadness also but if it's any concelation, college won't last forever. I didn't get back into biking until after my 3rd ones final round of college was paid for IN FULL! Grad school on the other hand will be my childrens expense. An MBA or lawyer should be able to afford a much better lifestyle than I was ever able to provide.
1) all colleges paid for
2) all bills (with the exception of mortgage) paid in full
3) life insurance secured for the next 15 years (worth more dead than alive)
4) Harley time! - not waiting for the golden years -

Be sure and show your daughters this thread, just to let them appreciate your sacrifice.
We put our daughter through 5 years of tuition, books, housing, food, insurance, spending money. Being the right way to do it ( or not ) it's debatable. Of course it is right to help, but...... at least she got her education and is now using it. It's only money and I am very proud of her. That, is worth the money. Good luck with yours.

I am very sad to hear this. We've had some discussions along the way as I got my first advice on my Stage 1 for my 07 EGC 5 years ago from you. I've been following the tasteful and well thought out upgrades you've continued to do, while I pretty much stayed pat and just add a tad of bling here and there.
Of course, that's because I'm also paying (still) 2 college tuitions for my two kids, even after they've graduated and been out there in the working world for a few years now. It's not easy doing the right thing, and I respect your decision. My wife and I make many sacrifices for our young adults.
Still, bummed to see you you go. I liked the "Sell the Mustang" idea personally. They depreciate much more quickly than bikes.
Did you sell it yet? Someone is going to get an incredible deal, no matter how much they pay for it.
Don't sell it if there's any other way. Look at how well liked you are out here, and how much you love that scooter.
Much respect and whatever you do, peace be with you.
