Default 07 Trans clatter explained, by expert not moco

Ok, as I thought and still do the 07 never has had a trans problem, the 5th gear whine is as designed and not a defect, the 06 and back had many with 4th gear whine(do search, 2 full pages on it) but the chatter, rocks in a can and so on is not normal and after reading a article I came across in the new THUNDER PRESS magizine I thought some might like to read it too. Im sure when harley gets a handle on what will fix it, they will and it will not be a big deal only requiring a couple of hours to correct. http://www.thunderpress.net/MONTH_AR...orheadMemo.pdf

5000 07 tranny posts ago someone else said they had their compensating sprocket re-torqued etc and said it was the reason they were getting a bunch of noise. Could be the source and dude was right.
Hope for you guys anyway. Would be an easy fix and explain why replacing the tranny did nothing to fix the problem.

For all you guys that want to jump in and say it's because 5th gear is a spur gear etc... we are talking CLATTER. Not whine. Most of us know the difference.

Well, I read the article closely too and folks can look it up for themselves online in the Sept. 06 issue. Always need to be careful about hoping a solution to a sticky prob has been found... but this may be it or a big piece. The engineers though have gotta keep the compensator set for the proper relief torques or other probs will result. They've got a bit of work to get this done but should be able to.

Hey, this topic is in MANY THREADS NOW! IS ONE OF YOU COMPUTER LITERATE ENOUGH TO DITTO THIS ARTICLE OVER TO THE OTHER THREADS WHERE LOTS OF FOLKS ARE FREETIN AND FUMIN??

Yeah there are too many threads about this subject. I think gunrunner put it here so it might get seen. If I know him well enough I'm sure he's put it about everywhere anyway...

Besides, don't even bother posting in the "other" thread. A Choice few will jump on ya and call you bad names if they find out you don't have an 07 tranny problem. This is a safe thread....so far?

Good... hope it gets passed around by someone who can make a quick thread connection than my poor ol brain can.

Oh, it's OK if people call me bad names from time to time. It's those damn 'sticks and stones that break my bones' that really jurt my feelings! I'll just hide out at my place up in the mountains, and if I get attacked my dog can lick em to death!

Pittguy,
I think it is taking time because the engineering and design of such parts (and of fixing production problems) is a serious big-league issue. They have to get it right. And if there has been a screw-up with the current design then they have gotta do the fix damn-straight-perfect and not get faced with redoing it over again and again. It's a big-stakes issue for the good folks involved and you betcha their bosses are breathing hot as lava breath down their necks. Within the MoCo bulletin may be a snippet of where they may be going with this... but the attornies ain't gonna let em say anything more til it's done.

Oh well, my guess and 50 cents will probly get you a half cup of coffee. Unless you drink that foo-foo kiosk brew.

Just for the record, I as a 07 owner am very concerned with this issue, mine does not do it, but who knows it could in the future. And I guess im a little **** when it comes to issues with something of mine, so I tend to reserch it to the max and always think sharing info with others who are doing the same is a good thing. There are many posts on the as called tranny problems but as Ive thought for awhile its not in the tranny but people hear the 5th whine and lump it all together. As to posts, Id rather see a dozen on important things like this as one on "do you wave" or "does this seat make my butt look big". LOL

Mine was fine until after 1st tank of gas,yes Id be concerned.Maybe everyone should become a lugger until something is done. Some of us have had these issues for awhile now.Just getting a dealer to pull your primary cover has been a battle. The factory has bundled this noise under tranny whines too.
