UPDATE - LED Head Light Comparison JW/HD & TL
#172
The new version hasn't been released yet...
They state release as "Quarter 1, 2012" - technically anytime between now and March 31. Reading between the lines of the conversation I had - will likely be sooner, rather than later - but officially "Quarter 1, 2012".
I know - bummer...
I'll do my best to keep the thread updated...

First - it addresses many who commented on the appearance of the P6 - the P7 physical unit looks more like traditional halogen lighting units, as far as the lens and reflector - yep, reflector. The LED is mounted to be rear projection into a complex reflector. There is one LED each for low & high - new technology obviously.
There has even been an update since the SEMA show - at SEMA, low beam and high beam had different LEDs, with high beam being a lower output. That's been updated, using the same higher output LED for both. The reflector was also updated to handle the higher output.
As with the P6 - high beam is added to low beam (as opposed to HD, where the low beam is switched off when high beam is selected); so both LEDs will be activated. Yet, the current draw will be LESS than P6 in both modes - over 25% less on low beam and 20% less on high.
Wish I could say I've actually seen this in my hand - so far just pictures.
Stay tuned, as I get more info I'll share. I hope to do a full review very soon.

Looking forward to the updates when you get them Bogie!

A Guy I know that works at NAPA said their Truck Lite Rep. feels like the Phase 7 should be available Jan. '12. Maybe they could incorporate use of the new style reflectors/diodes in the passing lamps as well; would mate well with the new headlight style (no hot spots). What do you think Bogie?

@ Intrepid175 -
I may not have been clear... the high beam is additive to the low beam in the TL applications - so even with the show version - the combined output when on high beam was greater than low beam alone. With the update - it's even more...
@ TheGrandPoohBah -
I'm doubtful about a Jan release based on a huge vendor show scheduled for early Feb, but you never know...
No announcement has been made regarding an update to the passing lamps, but...
