for those with the factory security system in place, the $6 radio shack siren works great- details can be found here by searching.
I had a cheapo Gorilla brand alarm on my evo bagger, worked great. inexpensive, 1 wire install. shock, tilt electrical interrupt sensors.
I'd buy another, no hesitation

I don't think Seabee's experiences are the norm, as I've heard of no complaints about the SSS on this or any other forum. In my experience the SSS is a very good accessory that I recommend. My bike did not come with it from the factory and I added it later by buying from Zanotti's and then having my dealer initialize it with their DT software ($37.50). Now I can just walk away from the bike without locking it, although I do lock the ignition and the forks when the environment dictates it, like on trips at motels. I just replaced the original 2032 battery after 2½ years even though it was still working, but it was outputting 2.85V instead of the >3V of a new battery so I replaced it as a precaution.
The code-disarm feature is good not only when the battery goes dead, but those few times when you might crank the bike, then inadvertently leave your keys and fob at home. I've done that twice, and by using the code you can secure the bike use as if the fob was present.
I added a Radio Shack siren ($6) which has been working well for 2½ years. There are threads describing how to install the siren here and on other forums. The SSS comes with two fobs from the factory but only one as an aftermarket accessory. I bought a spare fob on Ebay for $19 which the dealer married to the SSS along with the new fob.
