Default My Take on a GPS Mount

I have got a Zumo 550 GPS and had the standard mount that came with the kit to install the mount to the handlebars of my bike...The mount was to be supported against the perch bracket using the 2 supplied longer screws that came with the kit or using the 1" "U" bolt which was supplied clamping around the bar...This worked out well for some time since I have had the unit but I always felt there could be something out there that wasn't such an eye sore to look at when the GPS wasn't on the bike so I went to town trying to come up with something that looked clean when the GPS wasn't on the bike...Believe me when I say I did a lot of looking at the various companies offerings and what the members on these forums have done as well as other forums to see what I could come up with...

First let me say I'm not going to stop here at what I have come up with...
I since have installed a set of the 10" PYO MBB's and did not want the U-Bolt clamped around the 1.25 dia. bars or the mount that would attach to the perch.

I would like a mount that sits on top of the dash that when the GPS isn't on the bike it is totally concealed no mounts and cables whats so ever...Brains still in the design state on this one but in the mean time I did come up with a simple package which when the mounts and GPS are not on the bike it's a good clean look for what I was seeking...

Enclosed are some pics of the parts and the way I installed them...I don't have all the part numbers used but it shouldn't be hard to get a hold of if you want them...Also I am running a line from the Zumo to the AUX. on the radio for the times I want to play some music off the card

After having the canister on the mount for awhile I felt it was missing something and added a little something...I used epoxy and a plastic fender barb and epoxied it to the back...the I drilled a hole in the top of the canister and pushed the accessory onto the canister and got something a bit more to my liking...

Here you can see the cables wound around the ram 1" post
Note there is only enough to go into the GPS and then routed along the brake line into the inner fairing

I too have the Zumo 550 mounted on stock bars on my Street Glide. I purchased the HD handlebar mounting bracket which looks fine while while the GPS is on the bike, but take it off and you've still got that big ugly cradle sitting there. I was thinking about changing my bars to the PYO bars but thought that GPS on those bars is going to look butt ugly. I'm trying to figure out exactly what you did. You pictures with the GPS off....i don't see any cradle. Maybe you could explain better exactly what you did. Thanks.
