Default Maybe Got Some Bad Gas.

Bike has been running fine for the last 20-30k but recently has started runnin' rough at low speed around town. Get out on the interstate and it runs smooth as silk. It all started after I got some gas at a new Racetrack maybe not right away but by the next tank for sure. I'm going to replace the fuel filter how hard is this? The manual says I have to drain the tank to relieve pressure. Is this necessary, has anyone else done this.

Thanks in advance.

You don't have to drain the tank to relieve pressure. If the bike hasn't been run for a while there isn't much pressure. If it has been run, start it and then pull the fuel pump fuse and let it stall. Then attempt to start it 2-3 more times with the fuse out.

You'll need

61402-02 top gasket
1311D (10) sealing screws
61001-01 fuel filter kit

Read carefully how to push down at the pivot spring to get out and back in.

Before going to all that trouble, you can try running some Enzyme or Sea Foam thru it. There is one gas station that I consistantly get bad gas at, but running an additive thru gets things back to normal.

Must be the only gas station for miles and miles.lol

I got some water in my tank when I filled up at one of those stations. I put in 4 gallons-2 gal gas, 2 gal water. Bike quit running. Had to drain and pull tank then clean out. I changed the fuel filter and put a half can of seafoam and filled up with good gas. Turned over for a while before it started. It spit and coughed for about 15 seconds then smoothed out and has run like a top for the last 35000 miles.

I used a brass rod and hammer to loosen the top part and reinstall it.

if you have trouble with water in your gas, a bit of "HEET" which is an alcohol based additive that homogenizes that water to the gas, allowing it to burn off. this is what theakerr mentioned. keeping a small bottle of heet in your saddlebag shouldn't hurt anything, or you're always near a walmart where they sell it.

As a matter of fact, it is. Try not to get gas there, but sometimes have to unless I want to go about 15 miles out of my way (which when I am going to work, an hour+ ride anyway, isn't much of an option).
