Default Shifter Linkage replacement length

Had a failure with my linkage ball joint after 50k miles. Bought a stock replacement, but can't break the ajustment nut loose, on either end. What gives there? Anyway, how important is it for the linkage to be the exact same lenght as the one it's replacing? Thanks.

You have some leeway. Just make sure that when done you do not have any binding or the levers (transmission and foot) do not hit anything when you shift.

Thanks, I'll double check the back shifter and make sure its not hitting the primary cover. I must be a 98 lb. weaklin cause I can't for the life of me break the adjustment nuts.

Go down to your hardware store and buy two 5/16-24 RH female heim joint rod ends. You just thread them onto your stock linkage rod and get rid of the ball joint rod ends.

You can always re-adjust your footshiter on the splined shaft if needed. Just a suggestion, take it back to where you bought it & have them loosen the jam-nuts. good luck.

because the stock design will break again, over and over.
