Audio upgrade
#11
I run a HOGTUNES Big Ultra Kit W/ their new 160 watt amp and the tweeter pod. Bought it as a kit with forum discount-- installation is plug and play.
Twenty Year Warranty and email assistance fast as....
Teh complete kit sounds great-- with the lower fairing speakers and tweeter pod it's "surround sound" all the way. Plenty of power from the new amp-- I hardly ever need over 1/2 volume from the head unit.

I am thinking of upgrading the audio on my 2009 Ultra. I would appreciate any information on what sound changes have worked out for others. Are the Harley Boom speakers good or should I look at aftermarket. What about adding an amp.
I noticed that the HD Boom Ultra Bagger system requires stealer install, does anybody know why this would be needed?

there are so so many options when it comes to stereo upgrades. I would take the time to read "Glacierpearls" post on his stereo upgrade, he has done a ton of work on his stereo, and after hearing several others that have dones similar upgrades to his, I would say that you will not get much better than that type of upgrade. Although it all depends on what you want from your stereo. I currently have hogtunes front speakers, and the tweeter pod with the hogtunes amp, and I will tell you that I think it sounds good. But as time goes by I need better than good. I want incredible, so soon I will be doing a complete redo of the stereo, and I will soon have my hogtunes speakers, tweeter pod and amp along with the HK stereo for sale, and switching to a 4-6x9 speakers in the bags and 6.5's in the fairing with either 4 or 2, 1in tweeters and a alpine headunit, with the pdx amps. Yes it will take up all if not almost all of my bag space on my street glide, but for the kind of riding that I do, I really dont use the bags, and I'm currently in the market for a tour pack to use if I decide to do a longer couple of night ride. Good luck with your research and the only REAL advice I can give you is, take your time, this is a upgrade that you dont want to do twice.... trust me I'm on upgrade 3 and I still havent done it right....

I've got the HD Booms w/no amp & they sound great for the money. When we're riding on the highway my buddies say they can hear my music pretty well. I'm by no means promoting HD Booms just stating my opinion. I've heard J&M's New Rokker system & they do sound better than the HD Booms but...the J&M Rokker system consists of 4 speakers & a 500 watt amp! When the J&M rep turned off the lower speakers & just played the fairings speakers they weren't impressive at all.

Hogtunes offers excellent value in their Ultra kits: speakers only; speakers plus amp, etc.
HD's products are always overpriced compared to what's available in the aftermarket and HD provides no specs so it's difficult to compare them.
The OEM speakers are easily outperformed by modestly priced aftermarket products.
Since you're "thinking about" changes, use the search function for Hawg-wired, Hogtunes, and any other brand names you can think of and you'll find plenty of information/opinions.
Good luck with your research and choices.

Why is it HD cannot put in a decent sound system in a bike that cost $20 to $30k. I get the chrome and the performance upgrades but the sound system should be a given. Really why is the HK system such a POS? Well I guess I to will be looking for some options to upgrade my system as well and looking at adding speaker pods on my tourpak as well as new speakers and some sort of amp. Let the research begin. HD please redesign the stereo.

like the op im looking to take another step in an audio upgrade,so far I added the hog tunes, amp, and there tweeter pod and they sound great!
want more...Is there an easy step up I could do without ditching my hogtune amp.(2 ohm) and run with another pair of speakers(flhtc-2) and get any worth while results?
was looking at some car speakers today and just not shure if they were worth it.4 ohms seems the majority. Some looked nice and cost was low.
maybe theres not much room for an inbetween answer?

You can spend big bucks on audio for your scoot, if possible try to hear wahtever you are going to use on a bike 1st!!! Do your research 1st!!!!. I went with the HOG TUNES 3-way for the freeway and a hog pod, kept the stock HK. It sounds better, but I still get distortion around 3/4 volume. It depends on what your looking for It is perfect for chilling and riding, cant complain, but tif your looking to blast the people next to you on the raod or **** off the neighbors this is not going to do it. I like my music loud and clear with a lot of bass, I am not sure what it is going to take to get it done, but I am happy with what I have for now. In time I will change it out.
