High mileage used Touring bikes
So I have been shopping for a new bike, and really like Street Glides. Unfortunately they are all pretty much out of my price range. Except one I found, that has about 45k miles, its an 08. Looks to be in good shape, has the stage one and has the police bags where you hit the button on the top of them to open, really like how that sets this one apart.
So Im looking for input, do you think 45k is too many miles to buy a bike with?

You sure its an FLHX and not a FLHTP, what motor does it have?,does it have abs, oil cooler, radio, what do the handlebar switchs look like, any orange colored switchs, most of the time guys take the police bags off, just kind of odd they would put them on a FLHX, if it is a police glide with that many miles I would look that over very well, most of the cop bikes take a beating. good luck hope it works out for you.

We all have different opinions on high mileage! I try to stay under 20k miles when looking at used bikes and good maintenance records! With 45000 miles I would budget for some maintenance work! That's just me!
I'm looking myself right now! Probably going to spend a little more than I like but I'm more in to comfort now!

Not sure what the history is on the bike. It looks like a regular Street Glide that I just figured they put aftermarket bags on. I attached a couple pictures, maybe you guys can tell better than I can.
DTT, sounds like your friend got a great deal on that SG. I would be all over a deal like that. Im trying to be in the 12-13k range.

I'd check the VIN#to see if it's a SG, it's got a combination of parts, so it's got something going on. The frt fender, floorboards, & saddlebags aren't from a SG. That & the mismatched tires makes me think it was wrecked or stolen & the guy put it back together with whatever he could find cheapest & painted it all to match. I'd stay away from it, especially if he hasn't been honest about what happened to it. Keep looking around & maybe look for an actual police bike or a FLHT standard, they can be converted to look lik e SG, especially if you like the looks of the cop bags.

Here's a site one of the members put on here a while back. Type in Street Glide and you zip code and see what comes up. Have fun. It might take you to Road Glides because that's what I want, but go to the home page.

Looks like a Street Glide with cop bags. It's possible the original bags were stolen, or the bike was dropped. Used cop bags can be had for quite a bit less than used civilian bags, so that might explain why they are on the bike. You can swap the stock hinges on those bags for the upgraded chrome tour pak hinges for a nicer look.
I don't think 45K is a lot of miles for a twin cam bike, but I would be planning on taking care of some deferred maintainance. And if you put another 30 to 40K miles on the bike, you're going to have an 08 with 75K miles on it. If you buy this bike, you should be prepared to keep it for several years.

My advice to anyone wanting to buy a use bike "IF" you are serious about a certing bike.. I would deal with the seller - after you reach a price your OK with - I would tell the seller - Lets take it to the closest HD - YOU, the buyer pay for an hour of labor to have the bike checked over - if all is well - you buy the bike on the spot - if not your out the hour of labor and it just maybe saved you a bundle down the road - its the best way to buy a used bike and take most of the worry out of it.. Unless your a Mech - it beats looking at the bike in a garage and falling in love with the color and later finding out it is a POS>...
Wish I would have had my first wife checked out,,,lol
