John and his customer service folks were great and didn't blink when I said I wanted to return them. I am now using Harley boom audio speakers again without an amp but with a Sony Marine grade radio from Biketronics and love it. Great volume and base response and the sound is very customizable .

I'm afraid it's the speakers also with no amp.

I mean, how can so many people be so happy with these and I think they are pretty lacking?

I need some 6.5 titans to compare as a baseline sound.

Get an amp, you'll be glad you did, will have much more bass and sound better, you won't have to turn your head unit up so high to hear. I have the J&M 7.25s also, swithced from Hawgwired 5.25, the J&Ms sound better.

If you find you need an amp do some looking for the ELF amp. All specs I have seen it is very comprable to the ARC audio but at about half the price. I have all my stereo stuff just waiting to go in. Good luck hope this helps.

I called J&M and asked them specifically on this. They recommended the 2-ohm. They said the 8-ohm wouldn't work for squat with half the power.

2-ohm stable small amp should work fine but still.....pretty dinky speakers.

I have a Hawgwired which did cost more, I don't know how much the J&M amp is but I hear it's supposed to be good. To be honest with you I know rockford fosgate is coming out with a 300 watt $270 amp that I'm waiting to see the dimensions, if that will fit that's what I'm going to be changing to.

I've got the 7 1/4's and I couldn't be happier with them. I do have an amp. I wouldn't consider these speakers without one. Hell, the head unit could barely run the crap stock speakers.. Not a lot of juice there to begin with.

I know what you mean about the impedance difference. In the case of the Arc 125.2, they list it at both 2 ohm and 4 ohm impedance power ratings: 125W/channel @ 2 ohm; and, 70W/channel @ 4 ohm. It's generally believed that the J&M is a 125.2 clone and should be safe to operate with 4 ohm speakers, though J&M doesn't provide a spec with 4 ohm impedance as Arc does.

I agree completely, better than stock but certainly not worth $239.
