Well, my amp is in. It makes a huge difference. HUGE. 600.00 or so Dollars worth? No way...for 600.00 I could have ended up with a much better sound, but I feel less "ripped" after hearing the speakers with the amp. I would not do the J&M's again, but I am much happier with my sound now that the amp is in there. I am going to check into adding some tweeters. We shall see. Anyway, there is my update
amps here, doing it now. Would be nice to have some settings to go off.
Draining the tank was fun. Makes for a cleaner power and ground wire install, I guess.
I did check the wires on the speakers and they are right, I even flipped them and they sounded worse.
I found these settings somewhere here on the forum. I applied them to my elf amp install and they seem like a very good start. I need to wait for better weather before I can determine if they will be the final settings though.
(1) set the gain between the "a" and "i" in "gain"
(2) set the crossover just before 110; and
(3) set the output at "high."
My setup thus far is:
HK Stock HU
Elf amp
Infinity Kappa 62.9i speakers
Throttleup's speaker adapter rings
HK is powering the rear speakers, but I have the fader set all the way to the front.
That's pretty high for the crossover, depending on what the slope of the falloff is (usually 12dB - mild, or 24dB - steep). Maybe with the 5.25" speakers but not with 6.5" Kappas. I'd probably look at adjusting down to 80Hz to start, since the Kappa's go down to 45Hz rated (they aren't going to go that deep with any real performance though). You could possibly set it even lower, but you'll want to test it to see if the sound distorts at highway volumes.
