Default SE Clutch Spring Needed??

I had the 103 and 255 cams installed about a year ago and never noticed any clutch slipping until now. Seems worse since having the SE compensator installed a few weeks ago but maybe I'm just getting into the throttle more now. Anyway what's happening is on WOT or close to it at around 3K or 3500 rpm's it feels like the clutch is being partly pulled in and causing a slipping or breaking free of the clutch. I had the dealer look at it and they found nothing wrong. No smell from the primary and nothing worn.
I was wondering if the SE clutch spring that came with the 103 kit would help?? The dealer and some other HD folks said you don't need it unless your at 110tq or higher. Just wondering why they include it in the kit knowing that build won't produce that number. HD isn't known for including parts that you don't need if they could save a buck on the kit.

Any suggestions??

If it's slipping you need a heavier clutch spring.

My dealer told me the same thing when I had my 103" build done. Personally, I have not had any slippage yet but I wish I would have had them put the SE spring in when they did the build.

Before you switch the spring, what kind of oil are you using in the primary. If it is syn, switch it to dino and see if that helps. If not then the spring will do the trick. I installed one on my 96 with 255's after experiencing clutch slippage like you are.

The -98A spring would help. Heavier than your stock, not as heavy as the SE.

Dawg, When you say heavier you mean just harder to pull? I just don't want to put the 98A in and find out it not enough to cure the slipping and have to put the SE in after all. Why the heck do they include it in the kit if it's not needed??

The SE is 380 lbs, the -98A is 330 lbs and your stock is only 300 lbs. I put the -98A in my 08. For a 103 the -98A is plenty enough. If it is not enough then something else is wrong like in need of plates, etc.

I think they include it because some folks just like to see SE as the be-all-end-all of parts. I'm sure that it doesn't cost the moco a single penny more for an SE spring than a stock one. I've ridden the SE and it is a fairly solid pull in traffic.

I can't imagine why you would be breaking lose with your build even with the stock spring so I hope the techs are correct when they say nothing is wrong. The 98a spring is supposed to hold for well beyond what a 107 with ported heads will make, and its supposed to feel pretty good in traffic.
