I asked my tech the same question today after having the SE255 cams installed on a stage 1 96". He said I may lose some bottom end running a dual setup. For my setup it would be a gamble whether it would hurt or help even though it looks nice. Here's my spec's, https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...his-sound.html

My 06 88 stock with 2 into 1 thunderheader, would eat my 07 96 with true dual v and h lunch all day long! Both stage one 07 efi, 06 was carb. Neither had motor mods.

I always liked the dresser duals setup and considered it for mine but the reviews on the 2-1-2 minus the cat are positive.

I'm running V&H true duals, and have a noticeable flat spot from 2500-3000 RPMs. My wrench says I can get rid of some of that by going back to a 2-1, even a stock pipe, but I don't know if I want to do that.

I changed stock 2-1-2 to bub7 true duals. lots of low end torque lost. I mean LOTS!

I love the look and sound of true duals but, If you are going to buy V&H duals that has the same route and look similar to the stock header just keep your stock header and dont waste your money in duals.

I regret many times having done the true duals change, yes they look nice, yes they sound nice, yes bike is a rocket at high rpm but theres no torque where I need it, it doesnt push.

Im going to install 255 cams and quietter mufflers to se if it helps with the low end torque, if it doesnt help I would go back to stock 2-1-2 header but... men, it looks so weird with that left pipe that comes out from nowhere that I have to think twice.

maybe a stock header like pre 09 bike will do the trick and have the look but I dont think there are pre 09 headers that fit a 09.

My advice is dont put duals, and if you put them anyway just buy bub7 or something similar with 1 pipe in each side, you will lost torque aswell but at leas you have the look and sound

I went with the Vance & Hines Power Duals. It seemed like the the best of both and so far I like the set up.

+1 on this. this is also going to depend on which brand, stepped headers or no steps, how long the tubes are, etc..... if all pipes were the same performance, we would all be running the same pipes. but some offer more midrange, some offer better top end, and some offer better low end grunt.

there was a guy at myrtle beach a few years ago, like 2003-2004, with a tow behind dyno. it was aa small trailer, adn he would dynno tune your carbed bike right there. he didnt have the equipment to tune injected bikes. and he would put different pipes on, and show the difference. and, as cool as it was to see power gains on just changing pipes, he would also hold up different size bolts, behind the exhaust tips, and you could see the increase in power. so, once he added the right size bolts, he would drill a hole in the bottom of your pipes, and install that size bolt in your exhaust! lol! it worked! crazy, but there are exact amount of back pressure requirements, and that is how he added power to your bike, by playing with your back pressure. everyone seemed to want drag pipes, and he would work them until he made the best power, for your specific application.

so, pick the pipes that will make the best power, for your specific application. and your riding style.

compare a lot, before you buy, or do what i did, and keep spending money, until you get it right! lol!

ride er like you stole er,

These are V&Hs Power Duels...........I had the Dresser Duels to begin with and on the dyno the Power Duels showed a 10 hp & 5 lbs of tq gain.

The V+H power duals are not a true dual, they are a 2-1-2, and they look good too. I don't regret putting mine on.
