My uncle was willing to sell his 52 or 53 to me when I turned 16 in 1960 for $175 but I thought it was too heavy for me. I regret it to this day especially since the nostalga Harley fad has hit. I believe it was foot shift and I think there were a few years that you could get either.
..damn!..are you sure those pipes weren't just a chromed set of anti-aircraft guns from the USS Missouri?...WOW! cops would have fun with those on a pipe-check roadblock...nice bike though...
Oh if we could turn back the clocks now and then. Or had a lot more foresight back then. Ofter wonder where my 51 flathead is. Nice bike you HAD there.
My first bike was a 1941 "45" WR, guy gave it to me free, I then graduated to a 1958 Duo Glide, loved that bike and put many miles on it. Wish I had it now.
That is some machine! I love that seat, had one like it on my old 78 FLH. I think that is the one that has the spring post that goes down through the frame tube and you just float along, kinda like an air ride seat in an 18 Wheeler. The wife and I loved that thing. Rode it all over southern Ca back in the early 80's. Great Bike, those pipes are Something, and the rear bumper
Ride Safe, watch out for those Road Hazards.
Nice bike but just think of how much you would have invested keeping it in that condition for all these years.
You may want to look for one like it. I think you could find a nice one for $30k
