Default Police trade-in?

A local dealer has some LEO trade-ins. They are 2009 Electra Glides with 6,000 - 9,000 miles. They have no stereos or trunk and have a solo seat. There is no Harley logo in the tank. Also some kind of a factory funky **** on top of each saddle bag, I was told it was so the rider could easily open the bag with a gloved hand. They all have 103 engines with ABS. Appear to be in excellent condition but are sold "as is". Asking price is about $13,000 depending on condition and mileage. Opinions/comments?

Thanks,

Haha, those are commonly referred to as hockey pucks

Yea that's a pretty decent deal.

Lots of bike for the money.
Probably came off a 2 year lease so out of warranty.
You can still buy an extended warranty just like any other used Harley.
The "hockey pucks" can be replaced with pop up latches or you could hunt for a deal on regular bags and sell the cop ones. All the cop stuff just unbolts and anything that will fit a regular 09 EG will bolt right on.

Just remember when buying that those bikes are treated like most road cops treat a vehicle that isn't theirs, but they have to drive.

My motor officer friends are very hard on motorcycles. I'd be leery of buying any bike that one of them had ridden.

Ex-cop bikes make an excellent start for custom bikes. $13K seems reasonable. Does the bike have heated hand grips? It looks like it from the pictures.

Mine is a 2009 cop bike for under a grand I put a nes shield, street glide backrest, 4pt docking hardware, sissbar with pad, re located plate and put streetglide tail lamp. Cant really tell it was ever a cop bike. So for about 14k you can really change the look of the bike

The left muffler is a standard baffle type of muffler, can be punched out, right side is an epa morph thus the discoloration. I punched a 1/2 inch hole in my left and it looks like you can put a left on the right side and do the same. The epa muff doesn't appear like it can be punched out.

The next time I buy a bike I will definitely look for a cop bike. They also have to have service done on a regular basis. Most have low mileage and are well maintained. Buy the extended warranty customize it and ride it. I hated taking new parts off my new bike that no one would give me any thing for then putting other new parts right back on.
