Default Set up fees

How much have you guys been paying out there for set up fees, not including MRSP or shipping?

My dealer has a set dealer fee of 399.00 and freight fee of 335.00 but waived both on my purchase of my 07 roadglide.

Anywhere from 250 to 450.00. big rip off. harley pays all dealers 120.00 for set up. any good tech can do an ULTRA in 45 minutes.

Sorry if this turn out to be a hijack...Jeez, you are already paying MSRP (or more) for the damn thing. Not to mention that you're probably gonna have another $2K (or more) in 'options' added at that dealership before delivery. Oh, and don't forget that you're also probably gonna take it back for some, if not all of the 'scheduled' maintenance during the warranty period...And pay through the nose for that. It takes a lot of nerve to charge someone that just plunked down $20k (or more) a setup fee. Like they give you a choice...One price for assembled bikes, one for the do it yourselfers. Right.

It's The MoCo's way of making sure their dealers stay 'happily' in business. Don't want a CVO Ultra, but you would like to have the 110" motor installed in your 'Regular' Ultra? Gotta get the dealer to do that...I wonder how long GM, Ford, or Dodge would be around if the only way you could get a diesel engine in your 3/4 ton pickup was to have one of their dealers install it.....Of all the crap The MoCo pulls, this really grinds my a$$ the most.

Again...Sorry...Just my wish that The MoCo would do things different.

Why does HD do this - because they can - same reason they put plastic crap on our bikes then hand you an accessory book with your new bike to replace that plastic with a fancy chrome part - because they can.... as long as they have people willing to part with their money this will continue

to answer the question $350

Walmart charges 10.00 to assemble their bikes. They price it that way to give;A, to be able to advertise a lower MSRP and B, to give the dealer some wiggle room on price if he wants to deal on a bike. A dealer can deal on setup, freight and extended warranty prices without ever dipping into thier profit margin they make at MSRP and us a buyers can get good deals sometimes.

When I bought my Ultra I asked for out the door price I did not care what they charge on paper for any thing only what I had to pay to get the bike home. I ended up driving 50 miles to save $1,000 over the dealer that was 3 miles from my home.

The dealer that I bought mine from waived the set up and and frieght because I was leaving. I had a price cheaper at another dealer. (was going to drive 3 hours but it was worth it) Don't be afraid to say no to these charges. I am like the rest of these guys -- The dealer is making plenty without these charges added. I thought it was funny during my deal we talked about the price and these charges were never mentioned until we went to do the paper work and they were just going to add anothe 1000.00 like it was no big deal. My salesmen was confused that I was not going to pay what they wanted me to.

"Monty's" Harley Davidson of West Bridgewater, Mass. is a MSRP dealer with no shipping, no set up fees and 2 hours free labor installing any bling and stuff that you buy there.

How many of you guys have ever bought a new car? Shipping and dealer prep are fairly standard charges on new cars and they don't have to do anything other than maybe wash it. I saw my shop do at least part of the setup on my bike, after uncrating and puting on the windshield they checked everything....about the same as a 1k service, they went over pretty much every bolt to make sure it was tight, checked the belt and clutch, pretty much everything you would expect in a routine service. Can you negociate this at the time of purchase? Of course you can, but I believe to say its just a cash cow for the dealership is not correct.
