Default Windshield too tall

My windshield is too high, and instead of buying a lower profile one, can't I just cut off the old one? If I can, how do you cut it off and finish the edges? I mean so it looks good, and not butchered?

I took mine to a local Glass company and for $20 they did a great job and it's exactly where I wanted it and still looks like factory.

Masking tape on each side where you are going to cut. Draw a line on it where you want to cut. Use a jigsaw with a NEW plastic cutting blade and have at it! Sand the edges with progressively finer grit and you've got it done! It's really not hard, a nice project for a bad weather day.

Yep, thats what I did on my last bike. I already had it taped off with
blue masking tape, and lines drawn where I wanted it cut.
A $ 20 bill later I was walking out the door with my new w/s...happy as hell

Cornhusker, the glass company was able to cut the top arc off of the windshield in your signature picture?

Easy to cut off, just tape up both sides of the windshield and cut to desired height with a jigsaw. Finish by sanding the edge smooth, then remove tape. Or save it and purchase one off E-Bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...item230d5fc132

I had a stock windshield without recurve. I determined how tall I wanted the windshield and I taped both sides of the windshield with painter's tape.I made a mark on the tape where I wanted the top of the windshield to be. Then I tied a pencil to a string. I held the loose end of the string on the center screw that holds the windshield and traced an arc on the tape. I used a jigsaw with a wood cutting blade and made the cut just above the line. I used coarse sand paper to get it to the line and finer sand paper to finish. The whole project was done with the windshield on the bike.

It looked good and worked good. It took a little time, but it was really easy and cost almost nothing. If you screw it up, what the heck, you were going to have to buy a new windshield anyway.

I'm with the "keep it" crew. Get a 9" for Spring/Summer, keep the 12" for Fall/Winter - workis for me.
