RE: Son in Iraq The purchaes plan Bites
Guess it all depends on where you go. I bought my 07RG from the AAfes Overseas Sales dealer in Baghdad (Camp Victory) last August and savedright at$1000 off MSRP. I got the extended warranty and security system also. Paid another $300+ for sales tax once I got back in NC, but felt like I would have got screwed more if the bike was bought local. Saw one at a local dealer and they wanted a bit over $20K for it.

RE: Son in Iraq The purchaes plan Bites
I have a friend in Iraq who is ordering a new 2008 Street Glide and he sent me the paperwork from the Auto/Motorcycles sales person where he is stationed and it was close to $1600.00 below MSRP. I took the quote in to our local dealer and the first words out of his mouth was that the price was below his cost, which I know was a lie (I used to be the parts mgr. for this dealership and know the profit on the touring bikes to be at least $3K) then after some further discussions the dealer said he would match the price. I told my friend but he said no thanks, he would purchase overseas and pick up at the local dealer and pay whatever local taxes applied.

I am planning to buy a '08 through AAFES ENCS in Kuwait on my way back from leave. (I am deployed to Afghanistan right now.) I have heard some of you talk about taxes. What is the deal on them? Are you charged any tax at initial purchase, or do you just suck it up when you go to register it? For example, I live in Kansas, which has a sales tax, but my home of record and the place I will be getting my plates through is Montana. Will they stick it to me for taxes when I take delivery in Kansas? I have heard pretty good things about the program. Anymore feedback would be great. Has anyone ordered a bike from the guy at Camp Ali Al Salim in Kuwait? He's a Scottish guy, but I can't remember his name.
Thanks,
John
