Default Anyone make a better starter drive clutch?

I've been having a problem with my starter drive clutch not engaging, it happens only once in a while, sometimes once sometimes a couple of three times, but then it always engages & hasn't completely failed to start my bike yet. I'm going to be tearing into the primary to replace the front drive pulley, so I figure I better replace it before I'm screwed & have to do the labor twice. It's a 2000 RG with about 92K on it, it cranks over just fine when the clutch engages, or should I just bite the bullet & replace the whole starter?

I bet you'd find that it is not just the starter clutch. Probably something else going on. I'd pull it down and inspect it. Anyhow, if you replace the starter clutch, clicky HERE

Thanks Dawg, it just chatters when it doesn't engage, the starter motor still spins. Sometimes it doesn't do it for a week or so, 25 or 30 starts, when it does it sometimes just once, never more than 3 or 4 & then it starts the bike right up. It's been doing it for a couple of years & has never failed to start the bike. Suggestions on what else you think it could be? The link didn't work, but I went to their site & looked it up, do you have to be a dealer to order direct? Any where else to get them?

You can go to an auto parts store and ask for the 92-98 camry/celica/corrola Nippondenso clutch, same thing. Could be a missing tooth on the idler gear also. I'd definitely pull it apart and inspect it.

I can't find one online at NAPA or Advance, they only carry complete starters. I found one at Rockauto, but the picture looks different than the ones on ebay or the Drag book, just trying to make sure I get the right one, where do you find the wetherill one? What's the HD part#?

HD will sell you the whole shabang. They won't sell you the starter clutch gear. The pics that you are probably seeing on Ebay and Drag probably look different because it is probably showing the gear and drive, not just the gear.
