Default Backrest pad

Anybody know if HD sells a thin backrest pad for the 09 touring detachable sissy bar? The wife says she feels cramped (and shes a lightweight). I cant imagine a big woman sitting there. Only thing I can think to do is install a thin pad if available or maybe customize mine?

That's as small as they come for the tour-ers.

Good question. I would like for the OL to be set back a few more inches. I have been wondering if anyone has had the bars bent back or modified to accomidate the idea.

Guess I'm going to have to remove about 1/2 the thickness of the pad and have it recovered.

Bought my '11 SG in October & installed detachable sissybar. Immediately my wife said she didn't have as much room as on my '00 softail. We measured & if I remember correctly, there is 4" less roon on the touring bike than on the old softail! I set out to bend it back to give us more room. Man that sucker is strong. I turned it upside down (picture an inverted V)with padding on it and bolted an oak stairtread to both sides of the sissybar upright. I then drove my F-150 up the "ramp" formed by the inverted sissybar in an attempt to straighten out the bend a little bit. The sissybar did not bend at all!! What finally worked was taking a sledgehammer to it. I again laid the sissybar upside down (with the bend of the bar up) and layed an oak 3x4 across the bend and wailed away at it with the sledge. It finally bent! We were able to bend it back a couple inches (without cracking the chrome) which certainly helped but it could still stand to be roomier. A thin backrest pad would probably give an additional inch. I am surprised no aftermarket mfg hasn't come up with a revised design.

Check with Mean City Cycles and see what they can do. I'm thinking they could reduce the thickness by 50% and replace the original padding with some memory foam or something.

You're right, there isn't as much room on the glide as there is the softail. My wife says the same thing.. I don't know if I want to go that trouble thought that you did LOLOL!!

I swong by the dealership today and found they do make a much thinner pad. Its for the short bar which (IMHO) looks a lot better on the bike than the reqular height one. Think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the short bar and thin pad. Looks like this will give er some room.....
