oil coming out of air filter is usually due too the spring and ball on the oil pump relief valve... some time if your bike sits too long the ball gets stuck (if you lucky thats all it is) and just have to remove plug on pump relief valve and clean it... the problem never has anything to do with a filter or it's design

The safe answer is yes. I usually over oil my filter and that makes a mess. When I ride hard I will find oil on the side of my bike. When I don't clean up real well where the filter dumps oil when changing that makes a mess. Like most I get some therapeutic value out of cleaning my bike and looking for loose bolts, nuts etc. Wipe it off and don't worry about it. And your bike isn't worth 20k anymore it's left the dealership . Harleys dont leak oil they mark their territory

Per my dealers service manager "you're less apt to get blow by with the SE breather because it has a oil capture tube where the K&N does not"

It's got nothing to do with the air cleaner...
Here's an old tech bulliten...the problem has been improved, but it still ain't perfect.

Service Bulletin
M-1126 November 1, 2002
TWIN CAM Hi-Performance BREATHER BAFFLE REPLACEMENT

Purpose: To stop oil blow-by from puking oil out the air
cleaner at high rpms.

H-D has determined that the early metal breather baffle
assy is more suitable for high performance applications
than the plastic breather baffle which was adopted as a
running change in 2002 TC production motorcycles.
Therefore, beginning October 8, 2002, H-D returned to
the metal assy for all 2003 high performance models
and over the counter 1550 (95")/1690 (103") motors.

The kit p/n is 17650-02, two are required per engine.

Everything looks identical to the original metal
breathers, and they still use the same umbrella valve
as before, p/n 26858-99.

IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS
NOTICE FOR ALL
FL MODEL MOTORCYCLES
FL Model Motorcycles that originally spec'd a total oil capacity of 4 quarts. Overfill conditions can result in oil carryover. When oil and filter is changed in an FL Model the recommended refill capacity is now 3.5 quarts NOT 4 quarts since approximately ½ quart remains in the engines sump and gear case during an oil change.

My K&N has been on for 20000 miles and no puking, but i only fill 3.5 quarts and very seldom get over 4500 rpm's.

My '08 103"/SE255 with SE back plate and K&N filter element drips oil out of the AC. I run the oil level 1/2 way up the dipstick, still does it. I'm still looking for a cure. In the mean time, I just wipe the oil off frequently.
