Back in the Saddle

Back in the Saddle
After nearly 15 years off of a bike I am getting ready to get back on. I am strongly leaning toward the 2007 Road King Classic. Any thoughts on this bike or comments by Road King riders. I am only 5'5 but I don't anticipate that to be a problem on this bike. I have read some comments from tall riders that the handle bar height is a problem, any short riders with input? Your input pro and con appreciated.

Welcome to the group. I have an '06 Road King Classic and love it. I don't know
what type of riding you plan on doing, but the RK Classic is great for short
rides around town, commuting or long touring trips. I don't think the handle
bar concern is a height issue. I'm 6'2" and plan on swapping my bars out for
the reduced reach bars. Good luck!

I recently bought an '07 RKC after being off a bike for twenty years. It's fantastic, as are many of the HD models. I chose one of the touring models for the comfort, storage, and style. The RKC really fit the bill. The seat height, while not the lowest of the HD's, is low enough that my 30" inseam can handle it with no problem at all. I sit with both feet flat on the ground with about a half inch to spare. Many folks are using replacement shocks to lower the height even more, and you can look around the forum to learn all about that.
I really like the nostalgic style of the RKC, with the wide whitewall tires, leather saddlebags, and windshield. The Heritage Deluxe in the softtail line has similar styling, but without the saddlebags or windshield. These can certainly be added later, but I found the RKC the best choice for me. The Heritage Deluxe also sits lower than the RKC, which might be a consideration for you. I'm really pleased with the windshield as compared to the full fairing on my last bike, a Gold Wing. The windshield does a great job of reducing the windblast without giving me the feeling like I'm driving a convertible automobile.
And that thumping V-Twin? Heaven on earth!

I have an 05 RKC and it's a great bike. I'm a shade over 5'6" so have some of the same requirements as you. I lowered the bike 1 inch in the rear, I wear boots with a 'logger' heel and put a reduced reach seat and bars on the bike. It all fits pretty well. Good luck, take a MSF class and take it easy for a while.

Roadking are great looking bikes ,the handle bars suck . They give alot of people shoulder pain after riding for awhile . You can lower the bike change the seat and bars and just get it to fit you size . Good luck and I would advise the motorcycle saftey course , even if you feel that your experinced you can always learn something fromthis course.
