Installing HD 255 Cam in 2010 103" with 17,000 miles, do I need to replace lifters?

I'm just going to subscribe to this post to see how many opinions you get, not only for the lifters, but about the cams......

 

Woods makes a good lifter from what ive read. Stock ones should be fine but when I do my cam (555) I'm going to go with lifters do to a much better desighn and also to reduce some valve train noise. Not too many threads about bad HD lifters.

 

Service manual recommends replacement at 35K miles. You should be fine, just check the lifter cups/retainer for any unusual wear, check the old cam lobes/rollers for scuffing but they should be fine.

 

Really. What year is that spec for. Shoot I got 81,000 on mine with no issues yet.

 

I'm in the process of going to 103 inches and changing the cams, it is getting new lifters. They are not that expensive.

Are you doing the crank or at least checking the run out?

What manual? Where? It was often advised to change the old small-axle lifters on Evos at about that interval, but I've never heard this about either the "A" or "B" big-axle lifters, which started showing up on bikes in the mid-90's. My '96 Evo had big-axle "A" lifters, and the "B" lifters were introduced sometime in the early 2000's, IIRC.

At 25k I didn't change the lifters on my '07 when I did my cam job, and a very-knowledgeable tech friend kept his original lifters at 60k. How many high-mileage Chevrolets, which use the same part, have we seen afflicted with bad lifters?
