A stock HD not accelerated aggressively or short shifted will hardly ever knock.
The knock retard is correcting for ping, taking away timing in the process.

News flash: Less timing = less power

Buy some good gas and enjoy the improvement.

Premium here. Have noticed detonation when I have had to run regular gas when premium wasn't available.

My theory is more geared toward the entertainment value.
I bought that sucker to have fun on.
Better fuel, better performance, only adds to the pleasure.

You're implication is that it has less force, which is very wrong.

You have been misled, or you have misinterpreted some information. Low octane does not burn "more fully".

.
It take more heat to ignite higher oct fuel and less heat to ignite low oct fuel. This heat comes in part from compression.

Higher oct does not burn fully which is against what people are led to believe. It does not give you better performance which is again against the train of thought which people get from watching TV. It is the same exact gas as the lower grade except it has additives added to keep it from preigniting under compression or hot spots on the top of the piston.

higher oct does not give better economy which is also against popular beliefs. People just have it in their heads that they are getting better economy because they are paying more for it.

I have done the math on mine many times and I get 2-3 mpg better economy running the 87 oct. I eccelerate quicker and can reach a higher top speed using the lower oct then the higher oct.

If you are looking for true performance gains then go buy straight race fuel. Higher oct pump fuel is no were near race fuel.

Your final sentence contradicts the rest of your post.

You said higher octane won't give you better performance, yet you follow that with race gas giving you better performance.

If you are looking for true performance gains then go buy straight race fuel
Race gas is not 87 octane. It is even higher than the 93 octane that you claim has less power because it won't fully burn.

If 87 runs better in your personal bike, good for you. You probably are not alone. But you might be in a minority.
