I wonder if the 10% or 20% online discounters such as Zanotti and Chicago HD really save you money when you factor in the shipping charges.

I have ordered from Zanotti several times but with shipping the savings is virtually a wash. Your experiences?

Saves me a ton. My local dealers don't discount at all and we have an 8.1% sales tax that I don't have to pay when I order on-line/out of state.

True, true. I had not factored in sales tax which for me is 7%.

On small ticket items it may not be worth it, but on big ticket and multiple item orders it has always worked out. The sales tax usually off sets the shipping.

+1 I group my purchases to save. Could also consider getting a buddy or two to buy together. Saved $38 on just a seat and only paid $11 to ship it. Would have saved another $51 if I added the rack at the same time and shipping might only have gone up a few more dollars.

The trick is grouping your purchase so that you have multiple items being shipped that share the shipping cost. If you are ordering low dollar individual items, you are not going to save much if anything.

However, even at break-even I saved myself a 65-mile trip to the HD store.

9.3% here in PHX.

Zanotti's is a huge saving when done right- and they WILL price match if you can show a better price.

be smart about shipping, double check prices and don't group stuff you need right away with special order parts like painted stuff, it'll hold up you entire order.

Zanotti's saves me a ton of money by not having to pay European prices.
