this is probably one of the better threads on this forum about Harley and reliability in the same sentence, I'm pretty up on keeping the fluids where they should be, tires inflated correctly, etc.....have consulted the service manual when in doubt sometimes and carry it with me when on the road.....figure if I look after it....it will look after me !!

Great to hear. I giggle when I read post about not riding until all the salt is off the roads, and not riding in the rain, and polishing the bike after every ride. What is the preservation for, a museum piece? I take pride in my bike and try to keep it clean but I am going to ride that thing and see the country without sweating a little dust.

Yea, not so many miles as quik but my buddy bought his bike new in 84 first year evo and said I bought it to ride, I think it has been washed 10 times max ,he is faithful about service but he dosen,t spend anytime cleaning or polishing it is a true rat bike . That being said I helped him tear it down this winter , It has 168k on it !! it still was running ok but had alot of blow by, cylinders were oblonged needed to be bored out . This is the first time the motor has been apart , He put in a new clutch at 110k and changed the electronics back to a points system on the road and left it that way . I'm sure he's went through some regulators and bearings but 168k that's pretty dependable...
