I am waiting on a 3.5mm splitter cable and a 3.5mm M/M cable to finish my connections from the Zumo to the NIM and all the 'clean up' associated with these installations. These cables are if I ever wish to play music from my 660. Note the AUX Input has been moved to the back of the radio! Damn...I am good!

Default Steve ???

Hey Steve, As long as I'm on a question role and you're the answer man -- I'm looking to install a 660 on my Road Glide with internal wiring bars. For a clean look I'd like to run the cradle wiring through the bars however I can't fish the wiring with mic, audio, usb connectors attached. I was thinking about cutting them off -- if I don't the wiring needs to be zip tied to the outside of the bars. Help or thoughts please?? Will I need the usb connector to down load planned routes? If so could I leave that on and just remove the other two?? Lastly, your thoughts on making the investment in the HD NIM. Thanks!

Hey Gary...

This mod rocks! I never have to worry about using the front AUX port!

There are several locations on the Internet where you can find the instructions on how to move the AUX input to the rear of the radio. These are about the easiest and most informative instructions that I have found...http://www.hdbomm.comm...and he includes pictures! The instructions link is located about half-way down on the home page.

This is a very easy modification IF you are comfortable soldering and working with and around electronics...and very small wires! But that should stand to reason. Take your time, make sure that you make the right connections (right to right, left to left and ground to ground), 'tin' your wires and there you have it! Total time is less than an hour.

Two things...1) I had a hard time finding a short cable to install. I ended up buying an 8', 3.5mm M/F extension cable at Radio Shack for $8.00. There was a lot of waste but it worked fine. 2) Make sure your 'color codes' are correct! The connector used at the end of these cables is called a 'TRS' (tip, ring, sleeve) connector. The TIP is always the LEFT channel, the RING is always the RIGHT channel and the SLEEVE is always GROUND. So no matter what color wires are used on the cable you buy...you know which one does what.

When you are at the store buying the few parts you need...MAKE SURE YOU BUY STEREO CABLES AND NOT MONO CABLES! The packages look the same and the cables look the same...but they are different!

I hope this helps.

Steve

I too have tried the nonHD Zumo with the NIM to no avail. I emailed Sickbagger asking him questions about how he got his to work. Evidently he knows/did something that I am yet to figure out.

Hmmm...an interesting problem Gary.

I understand the desire for the 'clean look' that you are after. Cutting off the ends of the AUDIO IN and MIC cables would not be a problem as long as you terminated/covered them properly after you fished them through the bars. But as far as the MINI USB Gary...I don't know. I do know that you do not need this connector...you would use the MINI USB located on the inside of the battery compartment and connect it to a USB cable connected to your computer to updates maps and such. What I do not know is if you 'whacked off' the end of the cable and taped it up would you have issues with any of the numerous wires located within that particular cable that may or may not short to each other...I can't answer that question. BUT...if you used Wild Ones Chubbys like I have...I THINK (although a major PITA) you could get those connectors through the bars! Lots of lube...lots of patience...and take your time. Just saying...

I love the NIM already...and I have not had my Glide on the road with it in operation yet. It's an inexpensive mod that I think will get a lot of use from me.

I hope I answered your questions.

Hey Steve,

The decision saga ends -- I purchased a NIM! Just glancing at the install instructions and thinking about its operation I realize that I'll need at bare minimum to keep the audio out plug on the harness. Isn't that how the voice commands get from the zumo to the speakers via the NIM?? I'll probably keep the mic plug but remove the usb connector. I'll terminate it well and any down loads can be done directly through the usb port on the unit. The bars I'm installing are the new ones Harley uses on the Road Glide Ultra. I'm sure pulling all those wires will test my patience and vocabulary!! My concern with using lube rather than baby powder is that the inside of the bars will have all that lube inside of them and as the weather heats up it will run out and make a continual mess on my custom Road Glide.

Thanks for the pointer on the aux port. Great info . . . . I may leave that project for next winter. I'm trying to get my bike buttoned up so I can trailer it to Alligator Bobs in IL for a custom seat. Unfortunately WI doesn't provide the same ride time as FL so I have to hustle so it's ready for a spring ride. Thanks again and have a great week!

I am purchasing a 665. Do i need a additional harnesss other than the NIM 76000024 for a 2010 streetglide?
It looks like I need a 69200033. Is this true?

Hey Gary...

Yes...you must keep the AUDIO OUT connector...that's how the voice commands are transferred to the NIM.

When pulling cables I have used baby powder...but it makes a big mess too! I now use that stuff at Lowe's that evaporates after a few hours...no residue left over to drip for months on end! And boy is it slippery!

It sounds like you have this mod under control...good luck with your project.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you run into problems or have any questions! And good luck!

Steve
